BnT great post. I agree on the duck canvas. The West is Dead chinos are all made of duck canvas, I tend to wear them as much as my denim. I want to make a trip to SF but my fiance says I would spend too much, she's probably right lol.

Probably coffee stain that didn't photograph well but I can see it IRL. Should I take it to a dry cleaner? .
I've had decent luck with my guy getting stuff out of silk ties like this, though I'm always careful to instruct his team NEVER to press the tie flat. However, I have to assume the previous owner tried that, so I would skip that altogether and go straight to TieCrafters. I think you need a 3 tie minimum, though.

Maybe I didn't measure the pit to pit right. Is there supposed to be a seam under the arms that you measure? I think I got the shoulder seam to shoulder seam measurement right.

If you button the coat, lay it flat and pull the pits out to the max, you measure from edge of fabric just under the sleeve on one side to edge of fabric on the other, regardless of where the side seams fall and when you double it, it should be the coat size. If you got a 21" p2p, that roughly translates to a 42 which is usually in the 18 to 19" range.
I dunno. Maybe it's a slender cut?

It's lower end relative to most of the other things they sell there. Still head and shoulders above your average department store suit, but still. Again don't get me wrong, I have plenty of their made in Italy stuff in my wardrobe and I love it, but finding that stuff isn't really brag-worthy unless it's a "I wanted it, it's good and it fits" brag (still a great brag).

Having said that, I've never encountered Harry Rosen store brand suit or sport coats that were canvassed. Were they house brand, or J.P. Tilford for Harry Rosen? If the latter, that's Samuelsohn's line for the store, which isn't exactly the same as the house brand.

The only labels on the jackets are the Harry Rosen label and the union made in Canada labels. When I do the pinch test above the breast pocket, I am able to grab a thin layer of fabric. These jackets are in good condition but the style is not new. Maybe they changed their construction method over the years? Maybe I do not know how to properly do the pinch test? I am sure you know more about this subject than I do. If you say they are not canvassed, then I will not dispute it.

But getting back to the subject of this thread. For Canada thrifters a Harry Rosen store brand that fits is a good find. If anybody is looking for higher end products, that fit you, in a style that you like, they can be found. But you need time and patience.

If I didn't already have a chocolate brown bespoke velvet jacket, I would be all over this and get it taken in. FWIW, the measurement may be off but if you told me it was accurate, I would believe it. Judging from the button stance, is it from the 90's? I find tons of stuff that fits me in the shoulders, length, and sleeve, but then has a ginormous chest measurement, often 21-21.5 and with tags from late 80's - early 90's. I think it's just a baggier cut. I am a 16.75" shoulder 19" chest 24.75" sleeve 30" length, for reference.

Kind of a rare find for me today, this is only the second pair of Alfred Sargent's that I've found. Bench made in a 8.5

This experience really has opened my eyes to the awesome world of fashion and slapped me across the head with the reality that there's another world out there besides the thrift scene. If anyone of you gents are near The City or are planning or thinking of coming here, please stop by The Missions and Castro to check out these awesome shops! You will be glad you did!
