Over the past few weeks, I've noticed a few times when TSM's site went into the "show everything" state it was in last night (just for one day each time). I just never noticed the seconds before, because I usually sort by price and stop when I pass from shell to calf around the $600 mark.
I agree. There were quite a few I've never seen on the Alden thread, and would not have considered purchasing if they were in my size -- and some still that I might not wear if they were free. There must be people out there who appreciate quality footwear, but whose taste is very different from most on this thread.

Alden still does a lot of shoes for the orthopedic market and I see a lot of those shoes making it to the seconds list. Odd looking to some of us, but comfort comes first and they are undoubtedly better than Rockports or some sneakers sold at a chiropractic office. Additionally I see a lot of the Japanese military last, indicating the breadth of that market. Japanese business in general are more open to experimentation, often preferring to make small experimental runs of products rather than spending years doing research before flooding the market with massive numbers, and I think that can be observed even in small fashion boutiques. Some Japanese Alden makeups may seem odd to us, but their Tricker's makeups are even wilder! I enjoy the Japanese attention to detail when it comes to shoes, workwear, and military wear, so even if I wouldn't wear a particular item I find it fascinating to listen to the reasoning and process behind producing it. My favorite Aldens are a pair of military influenced boots for Japanese retailer Beams that I snagged off the seconds list.

Just for fun:

Are those the Ravello LWB's? They look outstanding! Count yourself as one lucky man. Did you specifically request the antique heel and welt treatment?

New BB black shell tassels, to replace the defective ones I had to send back to Shoemart a few weeks ago. This is their first time out after employing the break in method.

So I have Jcrew PCT in size 9. and Indy in size 8.5

Should I order LWB in 8.5? The 8.5 Jcrew perf cap toe was just a bit too snug but I've read that the barrie lasted boots can be a little tighter fitting than LWB.

Also is $540 a good price for a pair of new LWBs?

It looks like all the 2nds that were listed yesterday have been taken down. I highly doubt all of them (including the less sought after styles) were purchased last night.
I looked late last night (about midnight pst) and the seconds (or whatever you call them--deep discount at prices similar to the seconds mailings) had been taken down.
...and then looked just now and they're back up. called and was told the ravello LHS in 9D was already purchased. darn! hope it went to an SFer. if so, post pics, you gnarly bastard.
