Unc,

Very nice.  The cigar ones edge these by a nose!

Hopefully they have more than 1 pair of these in stock.

I really hope not. That's why I am not counting my Alden's until they ship. Either way, I hope one of us gets it. Good luck to both of us!

Depends on what you mean by rugged. The standard neoprene sole lasts longer than the commando sole. But the commando is better for walking on dirt/mud or in wet/snow conditions.

I have to say, the commando didn't work for me in the snow last winter - too slippery :(

I've been thinking about the Kudu version with the Vibram sole for this winter.  Anyone have it and can share your experience?

Yes, that is what I meant. I wasn't commenting on the durability. I hope my commando lasts for a while...

I have a pair of the Ravello LWB's from last year's batch that lean very much to the reddish/color 4 direction. It's been almost 18 months and it's time for a first application of paste wax. Can anyone comment on the best color wax to maintain this shade? Kiwi Mid-tan, Kiwi Mahogany, Alden Tan? I've heard some suggest Alden Brown but I can't possible maintain my reddish hued Ravello with the same color used for Cigar. BTW - I know Alden wax is just re-branded Kiwi.

I would not recommend any paste wax. Use Saphir Renovateur, or Venetian cream instead.

BTW, the Alden Tan wax has a distinct yellowish tint.

These have been treated with Renovateur a couple of time since I got them but, there are some areas of the shoe that definitely could use the polish. Will stay away from the Alden Tan. Thanks.

I use Kiwi Mid-Tan on Ravello. Seems to be the color that matches the best.

There is a very red mahogany Saphir paste wax that I used once or twice unsuccessfully on ravello/color 4 (now I don't use any Saphir paste wax on cordovan, only cordovan creme)

I agree with this. A third alternative is Saphir cordovan cream in neutral.

FWIW, Alden itself recommends this.

It seems like a ravello kind of day...

I remember getting these, wearing them around the house, and noticing that a crease formed on the captoe. It bothered me at first, but now it adds to the character. Super comfortable boots. I'm glad I jumped on this order before the shortage.
