This sexy little beast!

Is a day tripper still a day tripper if its a color other than ravello?

"Day Tripper" is Leffot's name for the ravello captoe on a grant last
"Hunting boot" is Tassel's name for a ravello captoe boot on Barrie

Alden DC stocks a cigar captoe boot on grant with commando soles (both of the boots I mentioned above are on waterlock" - I dont think they have a name for it

No one stocks a whiskey boot in that style that I know of

A few retailers stock color 8 boots in the style (this is a plain captoe with no punching)

try not to overthink it....once you get your first shell, you will want another, then another, then another. Before you know it you will have broken all your rules against doubling up and you will not be disappointed :slayer:

I will try, and I know you are probably right about eventually breaking my currently plan to not double up. As an example, I think the shoe I am most drawn to is the cigar LWB, but part of me feels like the quintessential color to have is #8 -- which starts a long, internal debate.

As you may see, I have moved from Johnston & Murphy, to Allen Edmands, to Alden. My next Alden should be what? I'd like it to be shell cordovan, would like a tan or walnut, probably a balmoral as I have learned that bluchers are not OK with a suit. Any ideas?

I understand that blutchers are less formal than balmorals, but where is this idea coming from? I feel like I'm in the middle, age wise of those on this forum and for as long as I've been in the work force, LWB's and PTB's have been a staple of business attire. More importantly, fifty years ago, do you think the dozens of American shoe makers making shell and calf LWB's and PTB's were selling them to 20 and 30 somethings wearing selvage denim?

I think much of it is tradition. The same way a suit is more formal than a sports jacket/trousers. The majority of people won't know the difference between a blucher or bal. It also depends on the "work force" that you are in. Some are more formal than others.

you must own the LWB in BOTH #8 (quintessential Alden) and cigar (the "best" Alden shoe).
ergo you must double up.

If you start buying Alden shell, you will double up. I guarantee it. :nodding:

As for the LWB, just get the shell rainbow and call it good. :slayer:

Shoemart stocks this boot in black shell and 8. I have it in 8. It's on the Grant last. I like it.

(My apologies if this sort of question has been asked before, but for fun...) if you could have only 1 pair of cordovan Aldens in each color -- black, burgundy/#8, cigar, ravello, and whiskey -- what would they be? You are welcome to double up ("all LWB" is acceptable, for example) or restrict yourself to picking 5 different styles. I'll get us started, though note that I don't yet own any Aldens, so this is not based in experience:
Black - Monk Strap
Burgundy/#8 - LWB
Cigar - LHS
Ravello - NST
Whiskey - Chukka Boot
Okay, again, I don't subscribe to the idea of limiting oneself in such reckless fashion, but that aside, here's my list:

Whiskey - Chukka (this color is often too casual for dressy attire, so I opt to place it here)
Ravello - PTB (only a PTB can allow the Ravello to show its unadulterated beauty)
Cigar - LWB (if a horse could look sexy, this would be it)
#4 - Whatever the hell you can find - it's like spotting a unicorn
#8 - LWB (the quintessential Alden)
Black - Medallion toe blucher (no captoe, but plain) - anyone know where I can find one?

Mauro Polluzi, in the recent 50% off sale

Actually ordered an EU44 - which should equate to an US10.5, but they they sent me a US10E - still fit though, with the extra width..:satisfied:

Good to see someone in my home town wearing Aldens. The only pair I knew for sure that had been in STL were on my feet
smile.gif

I have AE on today, though eventually I'll add to my four and wear only Aldens.

There is a repair shop in Chesterfield (Cobblestone?) that sells them. He carries a few in stock. Are you aware of anywhere else?
