Question: is comparing sole length/width measurements on two pairs of shell indys a bad idea? My 8.5E whiskeys measure the same as some 9D cigar indys on a commando sole, and I'm really considering pulling that trigger....

Out of curiosity, what's the general consensus on LWB vs. SWB?

I prefer the shortwing, but I see way more longwings here.

At this point I have one of each. Shortwings seem like they're a bit more dressy because they're usually balmorals.

If you were given a choice of #8 or cigar Indy boots what would you get? Taking into account you already have 2 pairs of #8/burgundy cordovan shoes and a pair of cigar LWB on order. Hmmmm....

I have a pair of kudu longwings and really love them. And you are correct about them being a good foul weather option - the water just rolls right off of them.

Where'd you get kudu longwings? Any pics?

Short wings usually bals? What?

I have the Kudu Boots that Bureau did as a makeup, easily one of my favourite boots - the material is amazing!

Also, sorry for spam but just listed 3 pairs of Aldens that didn't work out for me - hopefully can find a new home.

not spam at all...good looking boots!

question: you sized DOWN for the plaza last from the barrie? i've never tried plaza but sounds counterintuitive.

Most of Alden's shortwings are balmorals. The above SF10 aren't, but all their standard shortwing models are from what I've seen.

Thanks!

Wasn't my intention to get the Plaza, was told it was a Barrie last but when I tried them on it felt smaller than a 10.5 Barrie. When I searched for the boots on LS I saw they were Plaza so figured that was why.

Been a right pain trying to get best size, in end it seems a 10E Barrie/10D Trubalance works but thinking of trying a 10.5 Plaza, etc - trouble is Alden make their shoes so long compared to the likes of Trickers.

Putting in an order for my next pair of Aldens on Saturday. (I'm an E width, so no special make ups or instant gratification for me...) I'm going with the unlined suede chukka, but can't decide on sand or snuff suede. I like the snuff suede better, but think it might be easier to wear the sand suede year-round. What are your experiences? What kind of belt do you wear with the snuff suede?

I like both and generally see the SWB as a more formal style (I have not figured out why this is so). The LWB seems a more casual look. If I understand correctly the SWB is a classic European style while the LWB is the more casual American equivalent.

Just curious - have you guys encountered the term "shortwing" outside of the world of Alden? I always thought the dichotomy was between a "wingtip" and a "longwing" with either pattern being available in blucher or balmoral style. For example, RL calls its Marlow bluchers "wingtips," not shortwings.

EDIT - however, to most people, longwings seem to qualify as "wingtips" due to the brogueing pattern, so if that is the case, then it would make sense to say both longwings and "shortwings" are a subset of "wingtips"
