Just walked out of the Alden Madison store after purchasing my new #8 shell plain toe bluchers. Thanks for the advice brethren!

Yes, I do like the #8 - those are exactly the ones I was looking at (Madison just shipped me my snuff suede wingtips) - do you mind telling me the cost?

Ok, I'm thinking about breaking my vow and ordering my first pair of cordovan shoes - I like the color ravello, cigar, whiskey and #8 - and I can get which ever one I like in the plain toe blucher(which is my choice). Now I mostly wear jeans and Bill's khakis and these shoes will get a lot of wear - any suggestions on the color this cordovan virgin should buy?

Thanks, seer

I love my ravello ptb's and my #8 lwb's, think #8 in ptb would be great too. Have not seen whiskey or cigar in person, but love them from afar...

Good luck with your choice, don't think you'd go wrong with any choice...

BTW, wear them with jeans all the time...

kippy you need to get some non-atrocious jeans :( :(

LOL....one thing at a time...heh heh. Just finished my shoes. You have no idea what it is like finding jeans with a short rise and my dimensions. Those are Levi's 514s. If you can recommend another company happy to hear of it.

Some artistic manque photos of my #8 PTBs, since the color seems to be current in this discussion. I'm trying to highlight what I see as the very pleasing, to me, variations in color that these are developing.

Man. Love the reddish hues on your PTBs. There is a tiny voice in my head saying that whiskey, cigar and ravello are gorgeous but the unsung hero may be #8. Perhaps it would be more desired it if was not as easily obtainable.

If you like 514s and want an upgrade, they make a selvedge with a nice dark wash

Seem to be short on sizes currently though, keep an eye out I guess.

P.S. amazing shoes

Samurai
The Flat Head
Warehouse
Iron Heart
RRL

You'll spend some money on the first four (2.5 to 3 bills) but you won't want another pair of jeans after those. My personal preference is Samurai. Go for a 0500 or a 710 cut.

Kippy: Nice photos of many, many beautiful shoes. Love the cigar LWB and those whiskey PTBs in particular. Just wore my ravello WT boots from ShoeMart yesterday. I'll have to post a photo soon.

Thank you kindly. With each shoe I purchase I think "that's the best one" and then the next day another Alden is on my feet and I think "no, that's the best one". It's like groundhog day over here.

What do you wear your WT boots with? Please post some pics.

I went to the Walt Disney museum here in SF yesterday with the kids and they had old pics on the walls of the artists. I could have sworn I saw a few Alden's on their feet in the black and white pictures. While my kids marveled at the animation history, I was busy squinting and studying the shoes in the prints. I think there must be a ring of hell for vain people such as myself
