Until I got orthodics.

Now they are a bit tight. Pinch the outside toes a little. And a little straining on the lace up.

What's my better option if I want to buy another pair, this time in shell : Going up to a 10E on the Barrie, or a 10.5D? Or is that essentially the same move?

Thanks in advance for any help.

When I was in JCrew last friday sizing my feet in Barrie's, one of the salesguys mentioned that if my shoes are too tight to have a "Jimmy Choo" procedure done. When I asked what that was, he said that they'll cut off your pinky toe so you can fit in a pair of Jimmy Choo's shoes. Thought that was a little extreme for buying a pair of shoes...

I just purchased a pair of these last week for my summer work shoe. The brown is a nice rich brown and they are one of the few non cordovan Aldens I own. I really like them.

You can get the soles topy'd or put toe taps. It's pretty pointless to put any wax or cream on them if that's what you're asking.

Lousy cell pics of my new LS Pitt Boots. The reverse oiled chamois has a lot of character, along with the antiqued edgetrim makes a great combo

I've done a lot of searching on Alden sizing on this forum, Alden sites, and retailer sites in order to figure out what size to get in a new last and came to the conclusion that I really just needed to try them on in person. I thought it might be worth sharing my most recent Alden purchase experience to help folks that might be in the same position.

I'm a 12D on the Brannock and wear a 12 in running shoes, 11.5 in Chucks, 10.5 in Clarks DB, and 10D in 1000 Mile Boots for comparison.

I have Truebalance Indy boots in 10D that fit great with thin socks but are a bit tight with thicker socks. I purchased them from Unionmade in SF and am happy with the fit.

I have shell Barrie LWBs in 10D that are a little tight for the last hour of the day. I wish I would have tried a 10E but it wasn't available. The 10.5D was definitely too loose.

According to Alden-of-Carmel's fit guide online, I should have been a 11.5D in both of those shoes.

I recently decided to purchase a snuff suede Chukka on the Leydon last and wanted to place the order online but didn't know what size to get so I did a ton of research. I emailed The Shoe Mart and they recommended a 10.5E based on my description of how the LWBs and Indys fit. However, I didn't like the possibility of doing the trial-and-error thing with them so I stopped by the Alden store in SF.

I started with a 10.5E and thought it felt pretty good until I noticed the toe-box barely putting a bit of pressure on my big toe. I mentioned it to the salesman and he said I definitely needed to size up. I tried on 10.5E, 11D, 11E, 11.5D, and 11.5E.

Ultimately, the 11.5E was the clear winner.

Just thought this anecdote might be a useful data point for others. My recommendation: try on multiple size/combos at once and if possible be sure to try the next size up/down and at different widths.

...that last post boggles my mind. I'm an 11.5 in one foot on a Brannock and just over 11.5 in the other foot and the 11D captoes on the Barrie I have are about as small as I can go. I couldn't imagine being anywhere near comfortable dropping another size below that and I wear the same sized shoes as you in those other brands.

....maybe your feet swell a lot during the course of a day and that original Brannock measurement is reflection of that.

Same here. I measure about a 9 on the Brannock and wear 8.5D in both Barrie and Trubalance. This works well for me since when on the Trubalance (Indy boots), I typically wear an athletic sock and on the barrie (975s) I typically wear a thinner dress sock. But, I could actually wear any type of sock on either and it still works for me either way.

And I am kind of the opposite of you. I measure a 9.5d/e on the Brannock and a 9.5e Stranke\\Park Ave fit great as do size 10 chucks. When trying on a pair of Indys, I expected that a size 9D would fit due to them running a half size larger. Anyway, I tired on a 9 and it was too tight. Then tried on a 9.5D and it was great in the length but really sore on the top of my foot. Ended up going with a 10D which fits great. Also purchased the Black Brixton Boots on the Barrie last and it fits perfect as well. I have a feeling that a 9.5e probably would have worked with either but I could not find them and sizing up a half size in a D worked.
