Welcome.  Careful though, if they are shell, sometimes cobblers don't know not to use cream polish on them and will polish them with it while they are in their shop.  If they are shell, specify that they are to do the heels only, and not to polish them under penalty of death.

You will likely regret this for a long time.  Your regret will cause you to resent your wife, and your marriage will deteriorate as a result.  You should have bought first and asked later.

True.  I'm not married, so I can't really relate, but if I was, I'd just tell them how it is.

When you are married - let us know how that works out for ya :D

Thank you both for the advice. It's much easier said than done.  It's not really me to just bully my way; there are other things to consider.  Raising a young child to be honest and trustworthy requires a good example.  Getting caught in a scheme like the vanilla visas could be more harmful than the value of a grail pair of boots.  I can live with that and without resentment toward my wife.  I will try to find a way to make it work if it's not too late.  If it is, I'll just be patient.  Thanks gents!

I'm not very familiar with your collection, but whiskey Indys sound like keepers.

The definite keepers because they get worn so often: #8 PTB, #8 NST Tanker, #8 moc toe blucher, snuff suede moc toe blucher, snuff suede chukka, cigar LWB, brown alpine grain NST, and possibly cigar Atom

Shoes that will probably go bye bye: whiskey tassel loafer, Kudu LWB, snuff suede LWB, black alpine grain NST, brown alpine grain LWB

I know there are about 7 or 8 other pair in my collection but after a few beers at league night at bowling, I'm having a hard time recalling them all right now.

Just pre-ordered these shell's from Leffot. Probably a Feb 2014 ship date (at least that's what I'm guess-timating). Almost sold out on their site and luckily they had my size (10D).

Will do.  Been dating for over three years and so far I've been able to maintain that dynamic.

PSA-The Brooks Brothers Corporate sale started Thursday 10/17 12 midnight EST.  Therefore its open now.  Most items get 30% off regular price.

Spend, Spend, Spend until the card maxes out or the checks bounce!  What the heck!  Right?

You do have to possess a corporate card for this sale.  I ordered a pair of shell cordovan Rancourts and a shell cordovan belt.

Good hunting

See Ya,

Steve

Not shoe related but I'll be stopping in my local Brooks Brothers after work and picking up some new chinos and probably an impulse buy or two. The doubling of the corporate discount isn't their best sale of the year, but it is the one with the best selection and fewest restrictions (the sales just before and after Christmas are usually much better deals but many of the most common sizes are sold out, shell cordovan often excluded, etc.).

I did not know whiskey tassel loafers have existed.

Neither did I. They were an eBay purchase (the only pair of Alden I've ever made from there) and appeared quite old, but in very good shape, when I got them. On the other hand, maybe they were just super old and super faded color #8? lol Either way, they were a good deal.

I'll have to snap some photos of them next to my Indy boots for comparison.

FWIW, here's a pair on Etsy of all places: http://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/162062502/alden-whiskey-tassel-loafers-vintage. Mine appear a touch lighter. This person lists theirs as being from the 80s and I imagine mine are about the same age.

First day out for my Cigar LWBs.

Are those Etsy ones supposed to be cordovan? Not sure about that.

+1. I would have thought that tan would be a more appropriate description than whiskey.

They look more like calf to me as well.

I've seen a bit of 20+ year old old, patina-ed whiskey cordovan and they all seem to look about that color. Of the colors that Alden makes, I'd say whiskey has the most drastic patina-potential (is that a word?) and variation followed by cigar. On the pair that I own, judging by the feel of the leather and the type of creasing they show, I am about 95% sure they are indeed shell cordovan but now you folks have me wondering (regardless of whether they are shell or not, the price I paid couldn't be beat). I think once I get home tonight I will have to dig them out of the closet and see if I can still read the interior numbers and try to contact Alden customer service for a ruling.
