Hi,

Longtime lurker, first time poster. I received my first pair of Alden's as a Christmas gift, and am now on a mission to add to my "collection." I stumbled across these on eBay and am tempted to pull the trigger, but given that I'm a total neophyte when it comes to discussions of lasts, colours etc. I was hoping someone here could help me determine if they're right before shelling out almost $200 with import taxes into Canada etc. Could someone give me the lowdown on this shoe?

I typically wear a 12D, but I know that some of the Aldens can run up to a half size larger. Would this meet that criteria? Any thoughts as to if this constitutes a good deal?

Sorry for the rookie questions, but looking forward to the feedback.

You definitely wanna ask what last they're on. That's the only way to know whether or not they run a half size large. Also, I always think it's sketchy when they don't show the Alden logo on the sole. Makes me questions whether or not they're authentic.

And in my humble opinion, I don't think it's a particularly nice-looking shoe. Just saying.

Hi,

Longtime lurker...

The soles look like they have been fully re-soled so you should ask to see a picture of the sock liner or the insole; however, I am not familiar with older Alden manufacturing styles so they might not have any 'Alden' imprint in those areas.

The price of $200 depends on how much you typically spent on shoes factoring how much risk you are willing to take. Personally, if I am not sure of the fit, I avoid taking risks unless it is REALLY a deal (which is my book is under 25% of the MSRP). Good luck if you do pick them up.

It's definitely not a deal where you're losing out if you take a pass. It's an okay deal at best. They've been resoled, look pretty worn, and (in my opinion) are not very attractive. For $200, I'd get a pair of AE seconds over these.

I'm not familiar with the Alden last codes but the eBay seller does have a pic with the markings. Can someone remind me which number corresponds to the last?

Quick question....
After you polish your shoes and use a brush, do any of you gents follow-up with a chamois cloth/t-shirt? If so, do you have different cloths for diffferent color footwear or you just use the same one?

I use an automotive finishing cloth to buff, then discard it.

I'm in love with these CXL chukkas from LS, but they are sold out. Anyone know of anywhere else to grab a pair?

The website may say sold out, but email LSW and check anyway.

They've sold out super fast...twice. I'm sure they will re-order them super soon so as Phi said shoot them an email and ask about a re-order and potential pre-order.
