the soles were worn quite a bit, the store can re-sole new or used soles. Alden charges about the same if you send them in for the "Restoration" but obviously they won't touch non-Alden shoes. cheers.

Alden charges $120 or so I believe for recrafting. If you're having a different sole put on, It's another $100 or so depending on what sole it is (putting a commando on a non-commando Indy boot, for instance, is extra). If you PM Tom at Leather Soul he would have a better idea.

Snap last - fits very similar to Hampton, i.e TTS.

This is absolutely wrong information. Alden charges $145 now soles replaces(used to be $120) for a recraft - they will put on any sole you want (except for LHS -- you only get a single leather sole) as long as it is reasonable (e.g you can't get the cork sole on a shell wingtip bal).

I have gotten crepe soled bluchers replaced with double leather soles and they had absolutely no problems with my request. If you don't request anything, they will recraft the shoes as to how it looked originally or what they came in with.

I can never get anyone at Alden to answer the phone or respond to email. Do you just box up your shoes and send it into them with a note and contact info?

Does anyone here have any Alden made from Calfskin in Scotch Grain? I really like the look of Style #: 44614H, but would love to see real life pictures before deciding. Thanks in advance.

Hey zippy, what color is that? I thought scotch grain was the color name? At least according to Shoemart...they listed color as scotch grain, and calf skin in the description. And you're right, theirs is a dark brown shade, yours are lighter.

How do you like it compare to the other materials?

Scotch grain is the embossed finish of the leather.
It can come in different colors. The invoice for those boots lists the color as "mahogany".

Hello,

Looking for some guidance on sizing. How does the cape cod last fit compared to the Van Last and the Hampton?

I take in 8.5D in both Van and Hampton, so would that be my size on the Cape Cod as well?

Thanks!

No - they are Aberdeen. My greatest Alden purchase regret to date -- although I had plenty of fair warning courtesy of SF, the toebox is as narrow as everyone says it is. The heel also runs narrower than the Snap/Hampton last on the perf-toe bals.
