How crucial is carpeting to the Mac Method? I've just gotten my first pair of shell shoes (BB captoes), and I live in a largely carpetless world.

Is the pen/pencil crease largely embraced or shunned by the SF community?

I'm likely overthinking my first shells - thanks for entertaining these questions.

The stiffness of new leather soles can cause rapid wear on the tip of the sole . Wearing them on a non-abrasive surface until flexible can prevent or reduce this .That is what the carpet thing is about.
The pencil crease is really a matter of preference I personally prefer the look of natural random creasing but I dont feel there is anything "wrong " with it .
I dont think you are overthinking this at all. New shell cordovan shoes are an expensive investment and these are pretty basic questions .

Whiskey day.

Some have referred to these as cigar. But your post says whiskey. Which one? Either way, nice shoe - although I will say they look considerably darker than my whiskey LHS (but could just be lighting though).

They as model 6746 Whiskey as shown on the Citishoes site. They are a bit darker than most Whiskey I've seen in pictures. I bought them on ebay recently. They are going up to Alden for recrafting soon, I'm interested in seeing them on return.

Yeah leather soul has orders 3+ years old too that are confirmed but haven't started production kinda ridiculous.
