My friend is actually one of the main reps and he's been supplying me with a ton of the stuff, but the last time I went over to his place to pick-up those sample bottles for Brian, he told me their main focus is industry and not retail. I've seen it popping at bars and restaurants all over Chicago thanks to my friend, he even told me a couple of the brewpubs were interested in aging some of their beers in the used Angel's Envy barrels...

Had my first glass of George T. Stagg last weekend and it was fantastic. It was $15 a glass, and I have no idea if that's fair or not, but I don't see many of the more expensive bourbons available (Stagg, PVW, etc) for purchase in the state run liquor stores here in Seattle. I suspect that there are stores here and there that get in the more expensive stuff when it's available. Can Anyone in Seattle shed some light? The bartender that served me the Stagg said the one on 12th in Capitol Hill sometimes has the nicer stuff.

That is a fair bar price for it. A bottle runs $65 - $100 assuming you can find it.

I'm fairly new to bourbon, really only been experimenting for the last 12 or 18 months. I've found that bourbon gets interesting at much more reasonable price than scotch. The selection in Ontario is limited, and I've tried the usual suspects (Makers, Woodford, Bufflo Trace, Knob Creek, JB Black) but recently the LCBO has been beefing up the selection. Has anyone tried Corer Creek Reserve? It looks interesting, but $40 is a little much for a blind risk.
As a side note for any other Ontario bourbon fans, LCBO is discontinuing Elijah Craig 12 so stock up while you can!

The Manitoba Liquor Commission used to carry Corner Creek, and I bought a number of bottles when they discontinued it. It is a very smooth, light bourbon. Not overly sweet, not overly spicy or woody. Just very middle of the road, but not in a bad way. It makes a decent Manhattan or Old Fashioned.

This has become a staple for me, so much so that I can hardly drink the regular stuff. Bulleit is still my regular while 46 is when I want something nicer. I tried Bulleit rye for the first time a few weeks ago and was sold. Went through a slew of stuff at Seven Grand but after a while it all blurred together.

I've tried Corner Creek, and while it's a reasonably good bourbon, I won't buy it again. Just seemed a little too bland, and almost one-dimensional for me. I'd save your $40 and try to find Jack Daniel's single barrel. Yeah, I know, it's not technically a bourbon, but it's in the same price range as Corner Creek (at least here), maybe $5 to $10 more, but head and shoulders above it in terms of taste.

Yeah, I must say, while I would probably switch to Canadian Club before I'd drink the mainline Maker's Mark, the 46 is a very fine bourbon. It's hard to believe it's just a few weeks with some seared oak staves away from MM. I was skeptical at first, but I reach for this once in a while when I want something with a little pepper to it..

I'm new to this whole bourbon thing. Went through a bottle of Bulleit recently. was enjoyable, not great. Was thinking of picking up one of the following, any input for a novice bourbon guy? Looking for something around a $30-35 price range (in NYC)

Elijah Craig 12 or 18
Four Roses single barrel or small batch
Evan williams single barrel
Elmer T Lee single barrel

Know I've tried all of these in the past (except the Elmer T Lee) but can't remember what I liked best, so any input on flavor profiles would be great.

Tried a Rittenhouse 100, and am not a fan. I found it far too hot even after adding a fair amount of water. Undertsanding that it's a rye and won't have the same sweetness as my preferred bourbons, it was just too much.
I had a similar reaction the first time I tried Knob Creek, but it grew on me. I don't see that appening with Rittenhouse 100.

I can't say I'm a fan of Craig or think the single barrel Williams is worth the extra money. Four Roses small batch might be my pick of that list; I find I have to cut the single barrel quite a bit to enjoy it. What didn't you like about Bulleit? Have you tried Woodford?
