I have an m65 jacket that has an action back (pleats near the shoulders similar to the jacket below), however whenever i move, the extra fabric hidden inside the pleat always pops out and just sits there, so there are basically two balloon bulges on both my shoulders when i move around...how do action backs really work? i am assuming this isn't supposed to happen...anyone have a fix for this? I'm thinking of sewing it closed...

I've never seen that on a leather jacket do that (stick out) with the extra fabric cutout shoulders. The extra fabric is supposed to allow greater range of motion when your arm are extented out in front of you then recess back in when they are at your sides. So, that "ballooning" is definitely not normal, nor was it designed to do so.

Just a thought is a that the hidden section of leather might be stiffer than the rest of the leather exposed on the nearby area of the jacket. This stiffness might be causing the extra fabric to resist folding back in once it has popped out.

Maybe some softener to the area would help this before altering

Nevermind the comment then, I assumed the picture of the leather jacket (appears to be leather) you posted was the specific one you were refferring to... Perhaps someone else can shed insight, or maybe its time to stitch them up.
