I thoroughly enjoy when these items go on sale but for the life of me I do not understand this sales model. Why would you pay retail ever much less "shoebank retail" if they have sales so frequently. I also don't understand the Mora 2.0 and the St. John's being the same price during this particular sale. Mora 2.0 was discontinued and the St. John's is its replacement seemingly so this is confusing me I'll probably order in both and see which one I like better. I want a double monk but I'm sorta all over the place on color. If I get chili then its a replacement for a chili warwick for BB. Those don't fit me as well though according to the spread sheet they get worn often. Struggles.

No shell or indy lines on sale so I'll hold off there. I wanted to replace my chesters eventually with some Jefferson 2.0s but that 3 last is great on my feet. I don't think I want to recraft them though...

Probably only a small percentage of AE's customers know about them. We all do because we're here, but even if there are 10 times the number of regular posters just lurking, it probably makes a very small part of their customer base.

I don't think the reasoning is that simple. I agree with you that probably a decent chunk of AE's customer base won't blink twice at buying at MSRP, but at the end of the day AE is a for profit company. I highly doubt they're thinking "oh we've made so much money this quarter selling to rich people at MSRP, let's hold a bunch of sales to reward the shoe nerds. They definitely have some strategic reason for running all these sales (and I'd imagine they're still making sufficient margins at sale prices), but I don't know enough. That's why I buy their shoes instead of figuring out how to best sell them.

I think this strategy does make sense from a profit maximizing perspective though. Divide AE's customer base into two categories: the portion of AE's customer base is willing to pay MSRP, and the segment that is not willing to pay MSRP. This is obviously simplifying, but I think it's a reasonable model of the world

If AE permanently prices their products at a lower price (say their current sale prices), then they will sell to their entire customer base, but they will obviously be missing out on possible profits from the people who are willing to pay more. On the other hand, if they don't have sales, then the portion of their customer base who is not willing to pay MSRP is permanently shut out.

Using their current strategy, they can potentially maximize how much they make from the portion of their customer base willing to pay MSRP, while still being able to make (less) profit from the people who are willing to wait for sales and shop for good deals.

See also: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_discrimination, especially the section on "Coupons" -- I think this is a similar case.

Burgundy shell Daltons. The break in continues. I've worn these 5 times and the shaft is still stiff. Go ahead, let your inner 13 year old have a chuckle, I'll wait. Can't wait for them to be fully broken in!

And the the fbw who posted about Bourbon Daltons reappearing on shoebank, thanks a lot. My wallet is in luck though since the pair in my size is at the CAC, so I can't call for their condition.

Taking these pics made me realize that after losing nearly 25lbs, I really need some new chinos. What are some favorite shops for you guys?

Personally, I'm not fond of the white classic.  There are better options elsewhere.  I like the Cheetah's, but no half sizes and certainly do not like them at the original $245 retail.   I wouldn't even get them at the $127 they're at now for firsts, because I've tried them and I really could use a 8.5.  The $77 seconds price makes it semi-tempting, but I'll stick to a pair of Jack Purcells that actually fit me.

Thanks for the input. I see you like Jack Purcells, any other white sneaker you like? I also wonder what the seconds price is for the white classic sneaker?

Congrats on the weight loss! I dropped a little over 30 "bad" pounds about a year ago, and have been working toward gaining back 'good' ones. For chinos, depends on what you wanna spend. I tend to stick to places like J Crew, JCF, Banana Republic, and Gap. Spier & Mackay has some nice stuff now and again (although their stock rotation is more seasonal so they may not have much available at the mo').

BR's still got stuff on sale I believe, 40% off $200 or more with no code needed. So that could be a decent starting point if you want to buy several pairs.

I did a quick search on 10D on shoebank (not my size, just one of the most common ones with lots of choices typically) and they're $77. Bordering on acceptable, but still.....I can't bring myself to go much higher than $50 for something I know is inevitably going to be retired, usually after a single season.

Ask them if they'll send you a picture.  Some SA's have done that in the past.

There is some very minimal creasing from being tried on in the store and a couple of scuffs. They will most like cover with polishing."

This one seems to be the best answer. And it's from the Paramus store. Kristen was the one who emailed me back and I've read here that people have had good experiences with Kristen and the Paramus store.

I never wear white sneakers anywhere. Nike basketball shoes for basketball, NOBULL or Reebok Nanos for the gym, black asics if I'll be walking around for a substantial amount of time. Sperry gold cups cover the spectrum of polo shorts/jeans/chinos so I'll wear those over white sneakers any time. I know the white sneaker look is popular to some but it isn't my style and they are impossible to keep clean here during the rainy season aka all year.

$77 for the classic white on ShoeBank. If they have a size that fits you, thats a good price. My JP's aren't white.

This article pretty much sums up my feelings on minimalist white sneakers (though its really about new makers in the space).

google: "minimal white sneaker" and you'll find more options than you care to know about.

This article conveniently has a nice assortment of styles: http://www.highsnobiety.com/2015/02/24/all-white-sneakers/

I put full trust in Kristen. Just picked up a nearly flawless pair of HM's yesterday. Ordered them back when they were $189 (they held them for me until now), then I had been overcharged like $10-12 on a belt like 4 months ago (different SA) I was charged like $66 instead of $50something. I mentioned it, she pulled up the sale on her computer and said yep your right, but that belt is now even less than when you bought it, so I'll credit you the difference between what you paid and the current price.

I do have some white Vans Authentics that I wear interchangeably with Sperry AO's, but I wouldn't spend more than $50 for them. Plus, since Vans are canvas, you can through them in the washing machine when they get dirty. Other than that, NB 993's for substantial walking, Brooks Ravenna VI's or Launch 3's for running/gym, Merrell Moab's for hiking, and Chacos for pretty much everything when the temp is over 80*F (so, 9 months out of the year)

Also, I'm considering those dark chili MacNeils waaaay more than I should be...

Today, Brooks Warwicks:

Also, unrelated, but I was proud of this. Found an Ermenegildo Zegna tie at Marshall's in perfect condition (and in an attractive pattern, for that matter) for $12. Retail $350:

Macneil 2.0's on clearance now. I wonder if they're killing style or going back to the original Macneil. Hoping for the latter.
