Paw prints from the dog, a chocolate Labrador retriever named Arthur, were found on the muddy shotgun, Sheriff Joe LaRive said.
Oh snap! They've got hard evidence. This pup is going to Rikers!

Dang. Talk about bad luck.

I wonder if a tourniquet could have saved him, possibly at the cost of the leg.

What shocks me is how paper-think that tailgate is. Something thicker might have saved his life. I've gone hunting with my dad before and we don't use dogs but I know many others who do. This is very sad news, nothing funny about it.

I agree, it's pretty saddening, I don't find anything funny about it.

Hmm...wonder if they'll put the retreiver down, only this time its like a captial punishment for dogs.

This was the first thing that came to my mind as well... Another thing could have definately saved his life, however: being more careful with his guns. Guns are very dangerous tools and should be treated as such.
Not really funny. I've had to deal with hunting accidents before as a wilderness search and rescue person. Much less serious, thankfully, but it does imbue you with a certain respect for firearms.
