what shirt and tie to wear?

This shirt is a cavalry twill weave--it will have some sheen. Caustic is recommending a heavy oxford weave, which will have no sheen. I agree with his recommendation of a heavy oxford in sky blue with that suit and a burgundy tie. I also agree that a tie with more texture would be preferable.

For your son's 18th party, you do not want to look like a stuffy, regular dad. I assume you are 40ish; but even now 60 is the new 40.

I'd go with a patterned, shirt, burgundy glen plaid perhaps, airless tie, meaning button the top button, no tie. Tan or brown suede monkstraps.

Something like this but in a color that complements your suit; maybe burgundy or tan. Btw I do like the knit tie idea if you must wear one. You also need a great PS.
