My Cornwallis are here!

They're absolutely tiny. Like all-around small. The heel is tight -- though I can fit in it, it takes my thinnest socks and shoehorn work to do so -- and the toebox is smaller than any other AE shoe I've every tried on in the same size. I can't lace it up.

Honestly, it almost feels like the whole shoe is an 8, not an 8.5. The heel is possibly correct and I'm pulling it tight with my forefoot. I really am at the limit of what I can jam my foot into without acting like on of Cinderella's step-sisters.

So, the "Based on the 1943" is absolute poppycock. Considering others here who told me it would be narrower than the 5 last, I guess this is just confirming and restating their findings.

On the plus side, it's an lovely shoe. Tiny, but quite handsome. The Tom Cruise of shoes, minus the jumping up and down on a couch.

And, a total aside, the last one I got and this one both have a very different finish than one I got last spring and summer. Someone here said they are spraying the finishes now, is that correct? It's a lot more even, but definitely a less organic looking treatment of the leather.

Oh, well. Off to talk to Melissa. She's going to hate me even more than she already does.

I tried the Cornwalis on for size. To me, it fit similar to the 65 last shoes, but slightly roomier.

All this talk of loafers has me wondering what no show socks you guys have that work. The couple I've tried seem to slip off my heel while walking then get underneath my foot.
Edit: sorry if too tangential for the AE thread. Let me know and I'll remove.

I am having a dilemma with the strand seconds in 11D I purchased a month ago, after getting sized at the AE store. I have been wearing them twice a week. They are pinching my pinkie toe - after a days wear there is some redness on my toe. I gave them to the AE store to get them stretched, but the stretching did not help any. Do these look too narrow? I learned that the V should not be more than 0.25" (mine is 1"). The store associates did not tell me about this. I am hoping to exchange these seconds for an 11E, but those might have too much heel slippage, and it might be too late for an exchange...

pressure point here

Interesting! I'd heard that before, which is why I tried the last. But my current experience is the opposite.

I tried 5 last shoes when I first decided to get some AEs and again a few months later. Both at a retail store when I was getting fitted, and at the outlet in Freeport. They fit, but crush the balls and my pinky toe as my instep pulls the upper tight.

These Cornwallis don't crush my pinky toe, specifically, but putting my foot into the shoe pretty much squeezes it everywhere. It feels smaller everywhere.

Please don't remove! I want to know, too. AE makes a lot of them.

I totally don't get the point of loafers. They seem like something you wear around the house, or wear without socks if you're going to a costume party dressed as "Fletch" more than business shoe. I bet someone here can probably explain where they fit into a wardrobe and how to wear them well.

@texas9 Those look to be too narrow. Try 11E & 10.5E.

All of the talk in the last few days about the variation in McTavish colors got me to thinking about wearing mine. Where do these fall in the continuum?
600

For those wondering about the color:
600

(Original color, that is.)

@SLCRich So the Steen is just like the Mora, plain and simple. The Grayson has the narrowest, most tapered toe of anything, but it widens from front to back. I like mine enough. I'd start with normal size, then maybe consider up half length. Patriot is pretty different - ultra narrow heel followed by roomy toe box. I went same size on that also, but if probably start with up a length (or maybe width) on this one. The fit is strange and is not for everyone. The Grayson most should get to work, this one might not work in any size for some people. Hope that's a start.

I happened to video myself trying on the 11E at the store: . Isn't the gap around the heel a bit big? perhaps the 5 last isn't for me.

I got mine from Amazon (No Show Socks for Men By Jays, No Show, Extra Large Silicon Heel Grip. (White)3-pack Medium https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FOSEUKE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_ISLXwbJ01DDXG) and they work well if you get them situated correctly on your foot. Sometimes they slide down a bit during wear, so I pull em back up a bit and that usually has me good to go.

As far as how I wear loafers, usually it's with those socks, dark fitted denim and anything from a vneck to a tucked in button down and a blazer. As I stated in my previous post on this subject, I prefer a sleek lasted penny like an AE Lake Forest.

Most (if not all) of my AEs have the tongue stitched to one side.  For me, those are at least a size too narrow.  Did you get them from a store or online purchase?  Post a pic of the v-gap on your strands if you could.  My strands have about a 1/4 to 1/2" gap and the shoe fits me like a glove.

Do your strands have that much of a "V-gap" too? Loos to me like you need to go up in width. When I get a gap that large the laces put painful pressure on the top of my foot too.

These are 8EEE. What would be the next logical size up?

I will grab a picture with the Strands soon.
