Thanks. Looks like I'm SOL on the cheapo pair I was considering as a bad weather beater. I'm between an 11.5D and 12D and these are 11.5D. I've got a Long Branch in 12, and it's a bit large, but workable with thicker wool socks. I'll have to look for an 11.5E or maybe venture into the 12s.

I'm not in love with the style, but figured at some point I'd take a gamble on a split toe and this seemed like a pretty good place to start barnweaseling.

FYI, knew about your FYI, but I'm curious as to why you mentioned it in a post about the Wilbert, which is fully recraftable and not a sneaker. Or, am I missing a reference to a post long-gone-by?
You might give them a try. Just be aware that this shoe is very unique in its feel and fit. Some people like myself report that it is more narrow, but then other people report it is true to size.

Sorry for the confusion -- I put that FYI in the message because I didn't want to post two separate posts.

I brannock at 9.5 D+ for both heel to toe and heel to ball. But, on the 65 a 9.5 D had a lot of heel slip and even in the 9E, I felt like they were too long (ball of my foot just back of the widest portion and "catching" the toe when I walked). So I'm wearing an 8.5EEE in the Neumok and they are generally comfortable except for that occasional contact.

When you tried on the 9.5D and 9E, were they tied as tightly as possible? On the 65 last, I have heel slip on my proper size if I don't lace them up properly.

Do you guys think that it would be acceptable to wear the natural Academy shoes with shorts?
I wouldn't. Casual moccs or sneaks only with shorts. YMMV

I like the shoes that have been recently introduced, and these upcoming ones look great too.
I thought that I was set for shoes and boots for a while.
And then a brown Fifth Avenue boot shows up in my size on the Bay. Although used, they looked to be in decent shape. For the $25 Buy It Now option, I didn't see how I could pass on them.

FYI, I noticed a few more new style pop since yesterday.

One is the short wing that someone previously shared, called the Alumnus. The other is a bitter choc suede chelsea boot.

Wow! We may finally have a shortwing AE shoe with a real sole. Also, just noticed a new Shelton 2.0 with a sleeker last.

I did have them tight, the SA cranked the laces. The 9.5 was definitely too long and I don't think the 1/2 down is uncommon.

Even in the 8.5, I have 2" in front of my big toe.

I don't think it's acceptable for an adult man to wear shorts unless he is at the beach or engaged in some sort of athletic activity. But if you disagree, and many do, those shoes are probably fine and the difficulty is in selecting appropriate socks.

Okay thanks. That makes sense.
