Are there any resources/tips for thrifting smart?

I'm know I'm not the first to ask in ~1700 pages but I've read the Put This On articles and occasionally make a trip to stores when I have time but I'm just wondering if there's some tricks up your guys' sleeves.

Thanks in advance.

i love questions like this! they always make me smile.

i can't wait until @refinery perfects technique and then posts hard-won resources/tips/tricks on a public forum. maybe a map?

in all seriousness, folks here are very generous with knowledge. i think if you read the thread you will glean much. just not on demand.

You're right, there's a difference. I'm excited about 4x in some cases of higher-priced items, for for the lower-priced stuff it's bleh. I'm burnt out on ties, despite being cheap to buy, easy to store, and a breeze to list, the RT BoCs, BB Makers, etc. are just too mundane. Paying $3 and eventually selling for $12 isn't worth it IMO.

Paying $14 for a BB 1818 suit and selling for $60, I'll do all day.

Pretty much. I don't even list ties anymore. I just have like 100+ BB and RT ties just sitting here waiting to be eventually listed or lotted out.

For the new year I am not buying the lower end fodder anymore. I'd rather sell 1 thing instead of 4 to make the same $$.
I still buy the occasional thing to study it for educational purposes (Military garb for instance).

Also, ties, I still pick them up when they are super cheap. It adds a buck or so to the cost of my goods and I send a free tie along sometimes with an order. That is fun to me....

Meh, no pics tonight... Not sure if I will thrift much this month until all I have is listed, then I'll go out with a clean slate.

Oh that is super funny. Why yes. I guess that must have been you. Honestly, I'm afraid of ties for some reason but I feel okay sending them out.

Edit: I know why, it is because I haven't figured out how to take good pictures of them yet....

And my stash of ties is getting low, clean slate and all. Lol.

It takes about the same amount of time to pick, list, and ship something no matter what it is. 10X profit is nice, but I'd rather have 4X on a $15 suit than 10X on a $2 tie. The suit might take a little more time to measure, photo, and pack, but not 3X as long.
This just isn't true. Yes the profit margins are much higher on suits and blazers and such but the time taken in that process and the time taken with ties differs greatly. Ties need two measurements and a title and a couple pictures and thats it, listing is done. You just made 10x initial investment in about 7 minutes of total work, 20 bucks for 7 minutes isn't a bad payment plan. Suits need one or two things, detailed description, or detailed photographs, or both if you choose, a long with that you need precise and lengthy list of measurements to post as well as take. Were talkin at least 13-14 pictures, description, measurements, different angles for photos, different items for photos etc...A tie you tie in a knot and take 4 pictures barely moving it or yourself and your done. You also need to merchandise your suit properly so it looks presentable since selling an item depends so greatly on quality of photos. For every suit you could have 5-6 ties listed.

Edit: I did forget one key thing, don't bother buying or listing ties that are completely oversaturated on ebay because you won't get **** for them and yes, they will not be worth your time.

About that Haze Mink coat:

The pelts were small, but it might have been made from the pelts of female mink, which are considerably smaller than the males and whose pelts can sell for more than males because they're lighter weight and make lighter clothing.

Mink are now commercially bred in a bazillion colors that are simply genetic mutations from the wild dark brown. Here are a few:

Well I bought it to go with this jacket and I would say it's a darn good match. Thank you she's in good hands it's a great shirt. Now I just have to wait for summer.

Hey Eazye, there's a very friendly Foster & Son thread, I'd post pics there and they'll certainly tell you what you have. The manager of the Jermym St shop posts there and is very happy to help.
