+1 i think one of the best threads for English garments is the david reeves thread. I wish some these well known bloggers would do a write up or try a structured coat. I think SF is too caught up on the soft cuts.

They usually aren't interested unless you pay them or give them free stuff. Im also too busy and too cool to be bothered hanging out with them.

I don't think that's true. The only person I know who gets free suits is Simon at Permanent Style. And truthfully, I don't even know if that's true -- it's just often said that he does. Everyone else, as far as I know, pays full price for every thing they commission.

Well I can assure you I am not lying.

I won't disclose who I am talking about but conversations usually go like "oh David Reeves great! would love to do something! I would just like three months advertising and a free bespoke suit for the editorial". I don't want to carp on about it, Im not bitter about it and I don't have an axe to grind, just telling it like it is.

I have done a few interviews here and there and never paid for the privilege, thats not to say I never would, I am a pragmatic businessman and if I thought the gain outweighed the loss I would do it and I wouldn't have a problem with it.

With the other guys, I just don't take the time to court them, I don't go to all the parties and work the circuit. I wasn't being totally serious about being too cool to hang out, but I am crushed at work, I do 12 hour days 6 days a week as standard and at home I have 3 kids under 4 so I really just don't have the time for that side of the business.

Surprised to hear the advertising bit.

Is there a way to designate threads with custom titles? This is like Ye Olde Style Forvm.

If the train has a bathroom, you can post from there.

Does this imply bathroom fit pics? Here's hoping!!!

It's pretty common practice. We don't have it written into any of our packages, but yeah, editorial in exchange for . or as part of, an advertising deal is pretty standard, whether formalized or not. This is separate from "sponsored content", of course.

I think it's just the way things are but I wasn't talking about SF. Of course I pay my dues as an affiliate but one of the reasons I do is because I never felt pressured by Fok/SF into doing it. I was actually a member for a number of years before becoming an affiliate and I felt it was a sound move and also right to give something back.

My post was poorly phrased. What I meant to say was that we don't make editorial for advertising deals - it would be problematic for our platform - but that it is something common in the industry.

We do do interviews and features of our affiliates because we have access to them.

What is the stance on blogs just being a tunnel for affiliate links? Is that totally commonplace, or am I incredibly naive?

This is true only of the real bottom of the heap, content farm blogs. I mean, a lot of blogs do this, but as. A primary purpose, no.
