Cappelli, who's ties I like alot, also has a few of loud prints in his collection btw.

Yes, this is of course true...as a tie maker he should have some to appeal to certain types of customers...and some of them...especially a Madder he is making up for me that I selected at his atelier today...are quite nice.

BUT...the vast majority of his print ties do not fall into the "loud" category.

While I don't understand the choice of square here, the rest looks real nice to me.

The vintage thirst is so great that they're straining to get to some water.

He is a stylist among other various capacities at LH. I see no problem with the label at all, it's not a derogatory term. It should also be pointed out that the man has been in the business since birth and has run the shop after his father's death when he was 17 or 18. With all due respect to the tailors that frequent SF, it's not rocket science or some mysterious craft. There is likely not a scenario which Mariano hasn't come across and seen correct - some times at his direction. Lets remember he has been doing this for 50+ years, he's not just some old man with good taste.

In that way he is more than a stylist....

I don't know why people go round and round over this, its like trying to explain widescreen format to an old person and they keep thinking the top and bottom are cut off.

How about this one: Mariano is not a master tailor but he is a master of tailors, he's managed them and hired and fired them all his life, he's a boss. Its his name on the door, its his rep and his product. I know some people would be stupid enough to say that Andy Warhol didn't even do all his own paintings, but thats missing the point, without him and this direction that work simply wouldn't exist.

Maybe if he'd tucked in his accessories a bit more..

I'm not surprised but I'm still disappointed.

Eric Glennie's designs are marginally more tasteful than this.

That's true.

heisstill50feetfromtheocean's suits are the best I've seen which I why I thought I'd settle down with the 'Nacc.

Got a sportscoat to start and it was decidedly meh. I'm a big fan of the general Rubinacci shape / styling (if I'm allowed to use that word) - extended shoulder, drapey chest, close-cut skirt. But, for instance, the collar just didn't fit which seems like a real JV mistake.

I'd hasten to point out that I only saw Mariano in NY. Whatever Mariano's virtues, it would seem as though he needs a cutter / tailor with him to deliver the magic.

Every now and again I'm tempted to try again, but in Naples. I've held off because a second less-than-successful result at that price would be be pretty annoying.

 I'm not trying to be rude here but I do believe you gave me grief about this when I voiced my opinion about it being pointless if clients weren't in it for the long haul. I'm under the impression that if Rubinacci already has your paper pattern the second go around would have much better results. I think Gennaro would need to make a new pattern for you. Any way enjoy the process whichever route you decide to go.
