For anyone new to ordering White's or Nick's, I put together a bit of a guide over on /r/goodyearwelt. It's a work in progress and I'm sure I made a lot of mistakes (feel free to point those out), but hopefully it'll be helpful to some of you.

"boots and shorts are not allowed together...it's a fact"

Maybe here, but in the real world the Army. Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, Air Force, Sea Bees, merchant marines, mariner workers in general, in the desert regions of the world (80%), around the water fronts, on the docks, in the shoe factories where the boots (summer and fall months) are made the people all wear shorts and boots and ME TOO..............

Everyone is going to get along. If someone decides to harass others, or generally make the place unpleasant, PM me, and I'll decide if you are being overly sensitve, of if someone needs some time off.

For now, let's all have a group hug and not make me have to intervene.

Thanks guys,

Fok.

I posted this in the Nick's thread but I will add it here too. I just ordered an 8 inch pair of Nick's in brown waxed flesh from Dustin of Vermilyea Pelle. I am excited for them.

Very nice boots - any idea how they fit size wise compared to Whites?

see what happens when I stop contributing........crickets....

how to straighten tongue protectors wet them down real good and place them on a rag
Place another rag on top of them to cusion the leather

Place lead bricks or piece of railroad tie on top of them

Let dry for 24 HRS and they will be flat as a pancake...

While we are at it:

White's smoke Jumpers Vrs Nicks Smoke jumpers

Both same height both same leather
White's just back from rebuild 3 w/block and double leather Nicks with Honey 100R

White's

Nicks

notice the counter overlaps the vamp,,,,

now for something no one will tell you...

Nicks boot leather thickness at top of collar 2 layers:

White's boot leather thickness at top of collar double layer:

Nicks tongue thickness:

seeing a pattern here yet?

Nicks pull strap:

White's pull strap:

all the sole materials are very similar or the same....and of course both being treated with Huberds shoe grease after being wiped clean with Bick-4....

This is why Nicks boots weigh more.....and should be much harder to break the leather in....

That’s interesting…
Are the White’s brown smooth?

I purchased these Mar 1993, on third set of soles and heels. Treated regularly with Huberds shoe grease to protect the leather.

They are as soft as in the weeks after they were broken in and fit like a fitted calf skin glove. Took them out of the box treated them, put them on and walked about 1/2 mile..........smooth.......

Just a tad older than anything else posted, except my other boots....and they soaked up that last coat of Huberds above like a thirsty pooch.
