AP's problemo is the same as Ray Rice-they have pics/video.

This went before a grand jury prior and nothing happened. Nothing changed. Now the public and NFL are in an uproar because he got indicted and the pics went mainstream.

While our society (speaking from a U.S. centric perspective) seems to be trending more and more against supporting any sort of corporal punishment, I don't think there is the same objective moral imperative there that there is against beating the crap out of a female that you are romantically involved with. So I guess I think that what Rice did was worse until I see more evidence on the whole AP situation.

There's some truth to this. People can ignore the reality until they see it. I think in the Ray Rice case, there was a certain willing suspension of disbelief about what happened. The video certainly looked bad, but if you are dragging a passed out woman out of an elevator, it's a pretty good bad that something highly questionable happened.
