It's a different look for sure but the nature of the folded and stitched construction/pattern at the or cap appears to be less durable than the simple toe cap piece of William I.

Me too, me too! But the price keeps me off for now. Still hoping they will pop up as Rejects, or on ebay for around 40% off. Than it would make sense taking them. For a 1,600.00 USD they are just too expensive.

MoosicPA (and others): How do you like the toe cap on the William II (boot or shoe) compared to the toe cap on the William I? Curious to hear your thoughts ....

I think it is a style preference. I have a pair of William I in buffalo tan, which I wear more in the Spring/Summer time. The William II boots with the pitched leather cap toe have a slightly different look, though I doubt anyone not into shoes would notice any difference. Also, the boots are only available in the William II variety. I do like the boots though.... don't see them too often.

I like both William I and II, but find myself reaching for II more often.

Hello everyone,

My fiancee is planning to get me a pair of Oxford shoes for our wedding.

We have narrowed it down to John Lobb, Gaziano Girling and Edward Green

The specific models are

JL: Becketts, City II, Garnier
Gaziano: Cooper, Holden
Edward Green: Chelsea

Out of these choices, the Becketts are our absolute favourites, but it will ultimately come down to fit and comfort.
I am fairly new to these brands, can someone that has worn one or more of these shoes let me know their thoughts?

For the models we have chosen, are they all suitable to wear for a wedding (as the groom)?

I have flat feet with almost no arch, and I emailed the London store and Noel thinks the City II may fit me the best give the stouter leather used and classic non-bevelled sole waist.

I will get a much much better idea once I get to see these in person and try them on, but I wanted to know a bit more about them before making a decision on purchase.

Thanks in advance

I think it depends what you already have in your shoe rotation. I think the plain toe models in black (i.e., Becketts, Cooper and Garnier) would be best for a groom wearing a suit or tux. But they are slightly more formal than the captoe models. Post wedding, you might get more mileage out of a captoe, since it seems to be less formal. But if your style of dress doesn't call for black dress shoes much anyway, then I think either a black plain toe or captoe will be your most formal of shoes, in which case, I'd go what is best for its primary purpose as wedding shoes, and go with plain toe. You can bust them out for nice dinners on the town, other weddings or funerals. Of course, captoes would work then too, but the plain toes look cleaner. All that said, go with fit first.
