Tramezza's in my opinion are slightly better than AE and Alden in finishing but wear quickly. I do no find them to be up to the level of C&J or carmina. Not to mention they are extremely overpriced.

Um, have you ever handled C&J handgrades? If so, you would not say that AE independence are at that level. I put AE independence as not quite as nice as C&J benchgrades. Hand grades are yet another step up.

this thread is mostly useless due to the fact that there is no real systematic attempt to define what is being compared (I understand why as it would be several paragraphs long)

if you think of a scale of 1-20 for RTW shoes then RL and ferragamo have entries in say the 8-17/19 range

17/18 being the nicest edward greens + gaziano & girling (note: i am not simply saying G&G is 18 and EG is 17-G&G is overrated afaic) sold by RL and 19 being the Tramezza Limited Editions I had the pleasure to handle some months ago (Yes it is not only Santoni that does superlative Limited Editions)

dont ask me about the lower ranges as i know little about them other than a quick visual/handling inspection

That would be a huge surprise since those shoes are "Made in Italy", unless Gaziano got his relatives back in Italy to work for him

I don't know.

There seems to be a default assumption in SF that top priced Made in Italy shoes, that fall under the RLPL banner, are made by Silvano Sassetti. The Conlan's have different soles from the highest priced Made in Italy shoes but they are not much cheaper . Since Sassetti produces from total crap shoes to very good shoes, the Sassetti brand name is of no use when it comes to ascertaining shoe origin

That's what I thought, but the Rancourt boat shoes have a different stitching pattern where the piece of leather with the eyelets is affixed to the shoe, on the side.

Has anybody heard of the RL Nickson? It's a chelsea boot (made in Itally) with Norvegese stitching. What's the retail? Here's a pic:

I saw these at the Bloor St. Harry Rosen store....the things were like $1,900 full retail....on sale for rougly a grand now. They seemed nice, especially the navy/grey one, but for that kind of money, you're much better off buying some Gaziano & Girling shoes/boots from the company website, or pretty much anything else other than the chelseas you mentioned. $1K can get you some pretty awesome shoes.

That's where I saw them as well, but no almost nothing about them (I'm surprised there isn't more info about them on the forum).

They look amazing in person, but the cost is somewhat prohibitive.
