Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

I usually come to this thread to ask for help (!) or because something seriously went wrong with one of my auctions. Well, I'm turning the tables a bit and offer a tip.

I sold a suit and one of the sleeve buttons was cracked. Matching these and finding one can be a hassle and you don't want to send out the coat with a cracked button. Well, most if not all coats have those inside wallet pockets and those always have a flap button for closure. Well, I removed the inside button and sewed it onto the sleeve. Perfect!

You can also reduce the # of buttons on the sleeve from 4 to 3 (and do it on both arms) but I always think that more buttons on a sleeve is always better. Anyway, keep at it guys and thanks for your help in the past and the future.

Sold a coat, buyer is in Italy, I specifically note no shipping to Italy, HOWEVER, somehow Ebay had removed my list of banned countries from the listing allowing this idiot to purchase. I contacted, explained that I don't ship there, refunded his money, requested cancellation...he refuses. What do I do now?

As in, keyword spamming and misrepresenting your listing by way of misusing brand names? Douchebags do that. But if you're a douchebag, brands would include Rocky Mountain Featherbed, Arc'teryx, Stone Island, CP Company...and searching for those will give you more suggestions from other keyword spammers.

The D60 is an older version of the more recent consumer/prosumer bodies (D3200, 5100, 5200), so it's fairly safe to ASS-U-ME that your wife's lenses are AF-S (the focus motor is built into the lens) and will work on new Nikon bodies as well. Make sure the lenses say AF-S on them though, because if they happen to be older AF-D lenses, those won't autofocus on the newer consumer level bodies.

I have a D5100, with a few different lenses, and it's pretty good for its price point. Same great 16 MP image sensor as the D7000, swivel screen, will work 100% with your [presumably] AF-S lenses, and within your budget. The D5200 is the newer version with a 24 MP sensor and adds the 39 point AF from the D7000. If I were just buying a camera body and stretching your budget a little, for roughly equivalent money, I would buy a used or refurb'ed D7000 before I bought a new D5200, but explaining why might get into more detail than you or 99% of other people would care about. Only feature the D7000 lacks that you want is a swivel screen for selfies. Anyway, if you want to keep it cheap, get a D5100. You can get refurbs with the 18-55mm kit lens for $450, refurb body only for ~$420 (in which case I'd pay the extra $30 for the kit with lens, then sell off the lens for more than $30) or just a good used body from a private seller for $300-350. Ticks all the marks you want, fits at the low end of your budget, and takes nice pics. It also shoots video, but you don't have to if you don't want to. ;-)

I said in the description, not the title. And if you word something "as in the style of", or "in the manner of" you will find Auctions from Christies, Sothebys, Bonham and Butterfields all using this terminology.

I swear by Canon's, but that's my bent. I got tired of playing with my Rebel DSLR for 99% of things (I still use it to shoot smalls / close-up's), and hated having it hanging around my neck and bonking around / having to take it off, so ended up getting a very nice point-and-shoot that, with a learning curve and decent lighting, is yielding acceptable results and I'm getting better at figuring out what will/won't work before taking the shot. I got a Canon SX210 IS and am pleased with it, but not ecstatic. No flip-LCD (didn't know there was such a thing), 16mp, has a tripod mount, and I take it with me on holiday as it shoots good night shots and whatnot. It's an all-around work-horse and my main go-to camera now for eBay, concerts, travel pics etc. If you're looking for a dedicated eBay camera to use with your lighting set-up and wife's lenses, then I suppose read the posts above.

Personally I cannot see dropping $500+/- on a camera for eBay unless it will be THE camera you use for everything, or, a dedicated camera to build a studio around. I do not recall seeing any of your listings,but upgrading one's other accessories (if you have not already done so) - good mannequin, lighting, backdrops etc - will pay off in spades with a $200 camera, whereas I (personally) cannot see a $500 camera doing the same.

This is what works. Do this right and most point and shoots will look great.

If you plan to list a vintage Sears Store For Men (or whatever it is) vest described as in the style of Rocky Mountain Featherbed, you'll undoubtedly get some hits out of it. Fashion-forward and vintage do not go hand-in-hand, so stick with respected higher-end vintage/retro names and you should do OK.
