Fit without Crucifiction

I wanted to start a new thread so I don't get crucified for posting these crappy cellphones pictures (among other things) in the tailor's thread. However I think they give a general idea. Also, it is all I have, as I am currently at work and will be here for the weekend, but would like some feedback on a fit of a jacket since I have it here with me now. Please help and overlook the fact that the pictures aren't really up to snuff. My main focus is the shoulders. Click on the pictures for enlargement. Thanks in advance!



I believe this may be a bad example. And the jacket is relatively off center due to my body being slightly off center.

It really does suck having to go to work during the weekends. At all the old firms I used to slave for, I was expected to put in 60+ hours per week. That meant I had to spend my weekends at work, being around people whom I couldn't stand and it was miserable. Thank god those days are over.

As four the db jacket, it unfortunately looks a bit too long and big on the shoulders for you. How do the shoulders feel? Is there a bit of space between your shoulder and the end of the jacket? From the picture, the size of the jacket looks to be a 39L or 40L. If I'm correct, you might want to size down to a 38R. Since looks could be deceiving I'm pretty much giving the size my best guestimation, so you tell me.

Yes, I am in the communal bathroom...I have my own but the mirror isn't as big. Working weekends= . As for the jacket, your guess is correct, the jacket is about a 40 and I normally wear around a 38-39 and usually have to get the sleeves let out a bit on a regular fit jacket. The shoulders actually feel pretty good, they are incredibly soft and are a comfortable fit. But I was thinking maybe too comfortable. However, they don't really feel that large. It took a mirror inspection for me to notice the shoulders may be a little bit long.

As for the length, when I put both arms down my knuckles seem to line up with the bottom of the jacket.

My current understanding is that most people feel the DB should be a little shorter than your SB jackets. But that could be the beer talking.

^^Well, it is my first DB, I had no idea! I appreciate the response though. As for the shoulder fit, what do you think?

Double breasted jackets are very difficult to get right. In your case, the jacket does not fit well at all - shoulders way too big, sleeves too short, length a bit long (inch or more shorter would work better). The shoulders in particular throw the proportions off and you do not appear to fill the chest part of the jacket well. The waist could do with some suppression, but the main focus is the shoulders. The lapels conspire to make the jacket look slightly dated. Not such a problem since the lapels and cut of the jacket is conservative, but everything percievably wrong becomes highly accentuated by the fact the jacket does not work on you.

Dont give up on the double breasted look though - if it works and works well, you will look amazing. Your next jacket, try and get one with a more modern cut and lapels. Treat this as an experiment, and it will take a while to perfect the results.

I applaud you for trying though, that is the first step towards sartorial excellence.

Although salesmen will tell you differently, this test means nothing. Arm length to torso length varies among individuals. The jacket is too long and the shoulders too big, as others have stated.

Sleeves too short? I thought they might be a hair long. Hard to tell if it's the shirt or the jacket with no cuff showing.

^^Thanks for all of your responses. I knew that going into this the shoulders were going to be a bit questionable but I was interested in giving it a shot anyway. I appreciate the help.

What they said, but I think the sleeve length is good... You just need to wear a shirt with long sleeves and show some cuff to balance it out.... With another jacket that's the right size
