With all due respect to the fine gentlemen at the Armoury I have to question this assesment of the Rain last. I have two pairs of shoes in this last, one in calf and one in shell. I find neither to be more than just a smidge roomier in width than the Simpson. I have to go with lovely Betty's assesment that Rain is 'regular fit'. Certainly not EE in my estimation.

I have a pair of cordovan shoes in the Rain as well and find the fit very comfortable (my feet are on the border of medium and wide). I was hesitant about ordering a pair of suede loafers on the Simpson because I'd heard that this was Carmina's narrow last but after what you wrote above, I feel a lot more comfortable about getting them.

What size are you in Carmina and other brands?

9.5 in Carmina Rain, Inca and also in all C&J lasts I've tried (236, 224, 240, 314, 325, 337, 348), 10 in RM Williams.

The 348 is a little tight on the width for me so I'm got no plans to buy any more shoes on this last. The least comfortable width-wise (relatively) are the 337 and 348 lasts in C&J.

I wear a 9UK for the C&J 337 (Weymouth) which is a bit snug, 10.5D US in Allen Edmonds which is a bit loose. I'm guessing i'm probably a 9.5 on the Rain last.

Based on Garry Nelson's experiences, wouldn't you be a 9 uk on the rain last? The assumption is that the Rain is wider than the 337 and 348.

I'm not worried :) just curious what other people think.
Too much shine? Not enough? Placement?
I tried to polish them s such a way that the shine would gradually increase towards the toe. I'm not a fan of abrupt shine transitions like you see when entire toe-caps are glazed.

It's a faultless mirror shine - well regarded amongst those who like that sort of thing. I'm not sure how the rest of your dye job will hold up up over time though.

If the dye job holds up like it does on the asquiths I did two years ago they should be fine. Worst case scenario is that I may have to re-dye them a bit should they become too brown. The shine isn't faultless yet btw, I'll finish it tomorrow.
