Shoe lacing, closed or open vamp?

I have some new shoes (off eBay) and when they are laced up tight the vamp makes a V. Maybe it's just me, but it looks odd, like my feet are too "tall". I guess I've never noticed it in other shoes. The shoes fit fine and are comfortable. Is that V normal and acceptable, or slop?

Depends how wide the top of the V is.

I like a small "V" once laced (I'm pretty sure that's the way it's supposed to be with Oxfords).

No gap and it looks like the shoe is way too wide. Too much of a gap and the shoe looks narrow. Not much in the way of advice but if you posted a photo maybe we could help more.

Depends on how high your instep is. Fit through length and width is much more important than trying to achieve a particular V. That said, completely closed lacing can sometimes be a good symptom of a shoe that's too large or too wide.

Not a big deal and of zero importance if the shoe fits

I have some shoes like this, I bought them new and they clearly were shown like this.

I believe the 'v' will narrow as the leather stretches to your foot, so having some v is pretty much necessary.
