Real estate agent attire....?

I have seen lots of real estate agents dressed in all sorts of things(suits, jackets to tennis shirts and sandals), which leads me to believe that there is no real dress code for them. Its a profession that I'm considering, which makes me curious, what do you expect your Realtor to wear?

I have seen Realtors wearing T-shirt with shorts and sneakers, like they just came from the beach...Personally I wouldn't take them seriously unless they were wearing a suit.

Who are your clients?

How well established are you?

It all matters.

If your clients expect a suit you need a suit. OTOH if you're well established with a good word of mouth you could get by with a clown outfit.

I'd think it completely depends on neighbourhood and client background. (Read: SES)

I wouldn't know though. Not a real estate agent myself.

Loudly checked ochre sportcoats are required, are they not?

I like to see them wear a gag.

I want to see them wearing a portable polygraph machine attached to their suit jackets and massive tie knots...

I would not buy property from someone without a tie unless it was a really really really good deal.

Depends on the location and clientele. For a city dwelling I'd expect to be met by someone who knows his clientele and dress accordingly, less so when considering a country house or some such.

My feeling is you should roughly mirror you clients' dress. If you are showing a home on the weekend, casual may be appropriate (but I would stay away from t-shirts, sandals and the like). During the week, smart business casual at a minimum and probably a jacket and tie or a suit. I find people are most comfortable around people who are most like them, and if you are significantly overdressed in relation to them, it runs the risk of being uncomfortable for both of you.

just watch Million Dollar Listing!

in Boston, RE Agent attire is roughly equivalent to Corporate Casual attire + some weird blazer. most are not dressed well.

I couldn't care less what a real estate agent wears, just like I wouldn't care how a used car salesman dresses.
