Did he buy it from "Tom in Royal Oak"? :D

In 2007 , I was in Chicago for the Michigan/Northwestern game and stayed at a hotel on North Michigan Avenue. It was also the last series of the regular season; the Tigers were in town to play the White Sox. On early Sunday morning, I saw Jim Leyland in the lobby wearing a jaunty sport coat. He was alone, but soon was surrounded by fans who wanted to chat with him about their "cottage up north", their "brand new puppy", their "new car", etc... Every mundane thing you could think of. Now, the night before, the Tigers had lost (probably badly) and the last thing any manager would want to do the morning after was yak with strangers about "stuff". Yet, Jim was a gentleman. He engaged all these people as if they were old friends. He seemed genuinely interested in the every day stuff they were wanted to talk about. I was mightily impressed.

No. I did not approach him. I was too starstruck.

The night before, the Tigers had announced that they were releasing Sean Casey. I still miss "The Mayor".

I wonder if Leyland shed a tear seeing Don Kelly opting for free agency.

I"m sure that Leyland put Donnie at bat for the that final inning of Game 4 just so that Donnie could tell his kids, "I played in the World Series." It was kind of a farewell gift. I bet that he did shed that tear.

Mike Redmond is the new coach of the Marlins. I think I heard a collective "WHO?" from the city of Miami all the way over here in Mexico.

I just saw this on espn. I tell you what, I can't see the Giants repeating as World Series champs now. It's the Marlins' title to lose.
