RM Williams Boots - Everything You Wanted to Know

Does anyone know if you can get a composite (rubber) sole brass screwed? I seem to remember someone getting one by mistake...

Can someone tell me (in inches) how wide a 10H outsole is?

I have found that a 10G is 4 3/8" wide and 12.5 long, but can't seem to find the measurements for an H.

I know that i will take a 10 in RMW length-wise, but I have had to stretch the G fitting on a pair of suede Loake beaters to accommodate my left foot. I am looking at a pair of Comfort Craftsmans for the winter and, given all the talk about the narrowness of the toe due to the extra insole, I am just trying to dial in the fit of the width before pulling the trigger.

Not sure this is going to help you but I've just come from the George Street RMW store (I work around the corner) and a 10H Craftsman's outsole is 4 1/4" wide (strange that it'd be 1/8" narrower than a 10G! ). I got the guy to check the measurement twice (and saw for myself, 4 1/4"...)

Have you thought about getting the Blaxland in a 10G? Might fit you better if you are worried about cramped toe-boxes of the CC.

The 10G measurement might have been for the Comfort Craftsman, rather than the regular Craftsman. All other things (including size) being equal, the CC is a much bigger and chunkier shoe. Me not like.

I know you have said this a few times, but again I'll say that this is certainly not what I have been told by retailers

they all tell me the CC is exactly the same as the regular Craftsman with a different sole and insole

Yeah, I got that one due to a misunderstanding and returned it, but they certainly were willing to make it. I think it was MTO.

I have had a Comfort Craftsman and a regular Craftsman of the same size, in my home, sitting side by side. The CC is markedly longer and wider than the regular model. I now regret not taking pictures, before sending the regular craftsman back for a different size.

I am yet to compare the Blaxland, but I do intend to buy a pair. I will post results once I do.

Surely someone here owns CC and regular craftsman in the same size? Could we trouble you for some side-by-side photos?

Ahh, the H-width mystery continues!

I am not too worried about the "clunk" factor as I will be wearing them as casual shoes so the "comfort" part of the equation is appealing. Plus, it rains a bit here in the Pacific NW so the weatherproof sole is welcome.

I was going to go for the Gs as that is close to what I normally take in a regular shoe and I figured my trusty stretcher would do the rest. But all this talk about a cramped toe box has me hesitating and wondering if I shouldn't size up width-wise.

Still, odd that those measurements would come in under an H width, eh?

I don't think it's odd, given what I have seen. The same-sized CC was MUCH bigger.

Anyhow, the 9.5G CC was too tight in the toe box for me. So I bought the CC in 9.5H. BIG mistake. Now that they've stretched, they're too big.

I've since bought a pair of 9.5H regular craftsman boots (allowing me to compare with the CC). I decided before wearing them, however, that they were too big. I traded for 9.5G and they're just about perfect.

I also want some wet-weather RMWs for my next pair. I will be buying the Blaxland (= CC without the insole).

I don't even like the "comfort" insole of the CCs. I'm wearing dress shoes, not sneakers. I want to feel the ground beneath my feet.

You know the more I know about r.m boots the harder it is to find the correct /perfect pair. It seems that if I just rock up to the store and pick up a pair without actually reading too much into and take it for how it is, I probably wouldn't be too fussy about it and be more happy with it.

Dunno what a "regular shoe" is

But basically, I'm a 9.5AU, with wide feet. All my shoes are either 9.5AU wide, or 10AU regular (+1 for the USA equivalent).

The only different between the two boots are the Blaxland has a rubber sole and the Comfort Craftsman's has a rubber comfort sole.

The boots are virtually identical. The only difference is that the Comfort Craftsman has a Poron insole built into the boot.

so it's pretty clear to me that the Blaxland should optically look the same (besides sole) as a CC. a CC however could in fact be bigger than Craftsman

man, I bought the CC, and i have seen the craftsman in real life. they look the same in profile to me!
