Took kids yesterday. It was good. Nothing special, but a good story.

I just watched Robocop for the first time. Absolutely horrible. How could people have ever thought this movie was good?

I watched Drive this Saturday in the hotel after a long day of apartment shopping. It was pretty good but a little TOO heavy on the love story angle. Mostly interesting and fit the bill for a little escapism.

I recently watched Altman's The Long Goodbye for the first time and I can't get it out of my head. Is this a movie serious film people talk about? Becuase thought it was uncanny.

Yeah, a lot of people do talk about it. I've seen some interesting and insightful essays on it w.r.t. it being a deconstruction of the noir/private eye genre(s); a digest of the social milieu of early-1970s LA told through a mystery; etc. I even recall seeing an interesting essay linking it and a number of other early 70s fare (e.g. The Conversation, The Parallax View, etc.) to a general sense of dread within the Left following things like the spate of assassinations that had plagued America during the preceding years, Richard Nixon's election, Watergate, and revelations about things like COINTELPRO. I'm not sure how accurate that last one is, but it was interesting.

If only I could find them...
