Watched Apocalypse Now for the first time. What a fantastic and intense movie. Plan to watch Full Metal Jacket next week.
Apocalypse Now is a great movie. Except for Lee Ermey, FMJ is crap.
She was dead anyway, they hesitated over finishing her off quickly, or leaving her to rot. In fact they, at a price, held onto some sense of morality by finishing her off. It also juxtaposes with the scene where the helicopter gunner kills unarmed civilians and Joker asks him how he can kill women and children.
i think that was kind of the idea, but they way they presented the hesitation made it seem like it was more of a "how can i shoot this little girl" type moment. when i think it was more of more of a "how can i kill her best to satisfy my desire for revenge and killing" type moment.
animal wanted to let her rot, which i thought was great. to me, joker was more like "i want to kill her because she just killed our men and was about to kill me, but i feel bad to kill her now." and i would have liked to see him blow her face off without reservation, or engage more in a "what is more a killer thing to do, let her rot or shoot her" question. a small difference i guess, but i just would have rather seen it go down that way.
i dont really think you can compare shooting fleeing unarmed women and children from a helicopter, to shooting an enemy that was moments ago killing your fellow soldiers. jokers killing that girl was in no way similar to the helicopter gunner, imo.
either way, it was an excellent movie and i loved it.
Your pics are not showing up (at least for me - are you allowing the images to be imported?). As for Bond, it seems a widely held opinion that the movies (and the Bond 'formula') first really came into their own with Goldfinger (with the gadget ladden DB5, etc), but I too prefer the first two. For a first in a series, it's actually pretty amazing how spot on Connery is as Bond in Dr. No, and to me everything up to Crab Key island is pretty much perfect. And From Russia with Love is just perfect all the way through. Recently saw these:I watched a couple good, but not great (7/10) movies recently. In addition, I was very surprised to read that Goldfinger is considered to be better than both Dr. No and From Russia with Love. I personally thought the films got worse, not better, from Dr. No to Goldfinger.
