particularly in country where the speed restrictions are so enforced. He should've done it in Germany or Italy or...

Planes don't take you where you want when you want, he wanted to be free, not restricted by anything but the law and the physical limitations of the car he drove (the fact that it was a fast car could be seen as symbolic of even trying to limit the limitations a car might have). And he didn't want to live a life he didn't enjoy, spending part of his life eating aeroplane food in a cramped seat surrounded by noise pollution wouldn't have made a lot of sense. I can understand people's feelings on him though, as he is basically condemning the modern western lifestyle and its cookie cutter formula, many people would argue they enjoy their life and aren't restricted by having a home, wife, kids and a stable job. But on the same token I am sure there are people who aren't as happy in their situation but live it out of an illusion of necessity, in this respect I admire him for realising this illusion for what it is and turning his life upside down in the pursuit for happiness. True, this is a more common occurence than this article seems to infer, but I do think these types of sea-changes should be promoted in western society and I like the attitude of setting your priorities straight, he may be in debt but he is so in happiness, better that then being rich and depressed I say.

The guy went from motel room to motel room. Random driving through the US over that period of time strikes me as a sad, strange compulsion. He wasn't free, he was CONSTRAINED by the car.

He could have taken a 12 to 16 hour flight and been on the ground in Asia with a backpack on his back, just walking the earth, meeting people and getting in adventures.

What did the guy do that ticked off the Indiana patrol so much that they set up a roadblock? One paragraph from the sheriff explaining what went down, and the whole tenor of this article changes.

Would be nice to have a gallardo and all, but not if you had to stay in motel rooms.

Money would have been put to much better use if he traveled with it.

You should also divest yourself of material goods just like this guy. I know the divorce has helped with this and I want you to know I am ready to pick up the slack wrt your wine. I am there for you, brah.

Even if you walk on the wrong earth and wind up in prison, which is highly likely, you can still have a rollicking time.
