Modern Tailor Big Sales fabric recommendation

Received the shirts I mentioned before. Here's a quick review:

Blue and White Stripes / p129 / - Beautiful, Very fine, high quality fabric. Slightly thin. This will probably be one of my favorite shirts, but I really like blue and white striped shirts.

Blue and white checks / P20 / - Slightly thicker than average. Very nice though. Looks awesome with a tie.

Light Blue Oxford / p166 / - Regular light blue oxford. I wish it was slightly lighter in color, but it's still nice. It has a very slight sheen, but I think it'll go away with washes.

Black and white checks / 270301 / - Really Nice for a casual shirt. Fabric has a very nice feel. Thickness is perfect for a shirt like this, where you don't want it to be too thin, or else it'll feel crappy. (Now sold out I think)

As a side note, my cuffs are still much too large even after cutting off an inch from my listed measurements. I said they measure 6 inches, when it's really over 6 inches and I still have almost 2 inches of space in the cuffs. Odd. Also, I just received a $10 off voucher after saying I received the order.

They must be really backlogged. It's been 6 days and it hasn't shipped yet.

I agree. But now it's gone. It had no description, and I didn't know if it was a pure cotton or a blend. Email went (uncharacteristically) unanswered, and now it's pulled. I love that check on a yellow ground.

Pure cotton, 2 ply, 140 yarn count, fairly light fabric.

Musicguy - I have cut over 2 inches from my sleeves and they are STILL big. I have small wrists, but I guess I have to put in 3 year old measurements. Since there are some MT customer service reps on here, Emma specifically, perhaps a message could be relayed that there could be a cuff problem?

It's good to hear that I'm not the only person that has the problem. I've mentioned it in my survey. I just checked the measurements and they add 2.5" to your wrist measurement. I think it should be more like 1-1.5". I probably should have checked this before ordering my last order and cut down my wrist measurement to 4.75 or 5 inches. I guess it's better it's too big than too small!

I recommend fabric P4 (Broad sky blue and white stripes).

I got it for a short sleeve, casual shirt but I think it would make an excellent dress shirt as well.

I received my shipping notice on my latest shirt from them this morning. I stepped it up to a nice Thomas Mason blue shirting ( Steel Blue Plain No.: 892663 ) after finally being quite satisfied with the fit of my last few acquisitions.

Here's their image of the fabric. I just hope it isn't any darker than it appears here. It's suitability will be greatly affected if it is. I really like the weave of it though.



I'll post my thoughts and some pics when it arrives.

I don't know a whole lot about Thomas Mason, but I've heard good things from folks here. It seems like they have two or more levels of quality? silver line and gold, or something to that sort. It doesn't specify on the site from what I can see. Any comments or thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm also quite pleased with the speed of their turn around. I think I placed the order about 6-7 days ago. My first two orders took easily 4 times as long. That was last year when they were first getting noticed here on the forum.

And the fact that the offer larger thicker MOP buttons is nice. It saves me spending an additional $20 on separate buttons and my tailors time switching them out.

their thomas mason is TM Goldline selection. They have very nice MOP buttons design to compare to the other brands i ve tried.

The turn around time on these are pretty amazing. I'm happy with the shirt I received. I have several comparison pics to share from previous orders from them that I've been meaning to post.

The fabric looks and feels exactly as I'd hoped. The shade is exactly what I was hoping for.


They keep changing their label design.



The MOP buttons ( as you can see in comparison to the MOP buttons that came on my OCBD from them) are a good deal smaller, and don't have as much opalescence to them. I did notice one very small blemish on one button on the cuff.



My first OCBD ( Pink) I ordered from them and am perfectly happy with. The fit was perfect, which led me to take the leap of faith and go with a finer fabric line like Thomas Mason.





I only really need two more shirts to fill out my wardrobe, since I don't have to dress professionally for work, I don't need several matching pair of classic blues or whites, but I do want one very well fitting, high quality sample of each blue and white. I will next order one classic blue OCBD, and one simple plain white dress shirt, as I've grown to not like the look and feel of the previous ones I've picked up locally.

These buttons on the new blue TM shirt are smaller, and less opalescent. But more so than is apparent in this photo. Here they just look like white plastic.


One of my earlier acquisitions from them was this darker blue herringbone pattern. I didn't like the size of the collar that I chose ( my fault) but then again, it's too dark to wear with a tie anyway, so as a casual button up shirt, it looks good with the top button undone. The interlining had a tendency to curl a bit at the tips, unrelieved by collar stays. But it seems to be less apparent now. The label on these, I believe was their original, and my favorite.



The fit on this same dark blue shirt IIRC right, seemed a bit loose, so I had it taken in a touch, and had my tailor put on Naturalaut II's thick MOP buttons. It certainly sets the shirt out, with tons of fire to the buttons, but it's a ***** to button. I'm much happier now that Modern Tailor offers the option to go with better quality buttons.



Overall the construction looks good, and I'm happy with it.

DO NOT get the Cream colour Oxford. The pic from the site made it look like it's White but I've just received it and it is ******* disgusting, looks like a dirty yellowish sweat stained shirt that hasn't been washed. I am disappointed

Pink Oxford was ink Oxford / V42 / USD 41.97( on sale) which I highly recommend.

Dark blue Herringbone was : Dark blue herringbone / 270311 / $ 69.95 ( also on sale) they gave me this shirt for making a few errors on my first shirt order. I like the cloth a lot, and get many compliments on it. I've worn it about 5-8 times or so, never putting it in the dryer, just air dry after the wash, and I've noticed just a tad bit of velveting, not bad, it just has a much softer hand now.

The latest blue dress shirt, the lighter one, I think I listed above. It's a Thomas Mason.

On my monitor at least, I've been lucky, finding most of their fabrics to be nearly identical to the colors shown in their stock photos. With the exception of my very first shirt which was a complete failure. I wanted a charcoal grey casual shirt, and what I ended up with was a cheap black shirt, that had a hideous greenish brown cast to it, that only worsened after the first wash.

It was my very first order from them, and it came with some kind of glue residue on the collar, so they offered to replace it free of charge. I would also recommend steering clear of their stiff interlining. It's total cardboard crap.

But I am very happy with being able to get a shirt to my specifications, at this quality, for around $100.

I'll buy from them again, now that I know what to avoid.

ordered my first seersucker shirt from them. should arrive this weekend or early next week.........will report back and see how it feels

Can anyone recommend a good solid white fabric?
