If I get between 4 and 7 hours or more than 9 hours I'm almost worthless. I can function better on less than 4 or between 7-9.

On a good night I get 6+ hours of sleep but 4-5 nights a week it's usually between 3-5 hours. I guess you just sort of get used to it.

I'm usually around 7-8 hours of sleep and I'm already grumpy as hell. If I sleep to get relaxed for a whole while my body adjusts to appr. 10 hours of sleep. As that's just not possible in every day life I've adjusted to going to bed around midnight and showing up at work around 9 am. No way I'll be earlier without a meeting making it necessary.

I've lately become aware that I need more than my 7 hours a night during the week. I am a cranky, tired bastard at the office. On weekends I get 8.5-9 and that seems just about right.

I love to get a full 8 hours. I can operate at pretty much full efficiency on 5+ hours. Any less and I crash hard every few days and end up passing out for several hours at some point.

My routine during school has pretty much been 6-7 hour nights during the week with a 12-13 hour collapse on friday/saturday night. I think my body is trying to tell me something.

Sleep is good for you. The goal of sleeping less makes as much sense to me as trying to exercise less.

I get 6-7 hours sleep usually, but could handle less. I do find that if I get more sleep, I feel much better the next day. Even still, I feel like I'm wasting time by sleeping. I really don't look forward to the end of the day.

I'm fairly certain that a number of people saying they operate fine on 4-5 hour of sleep consistently are caffeine junkies. Just masking the problem of tiredness.

For me to operate fairly well without caffeine (which I prefer), I need about 6-7 hours of sleep. However, my ideal night is 8 hours, possibly 9 if I am very tired. Obviously with a lot of caffeine, anyone can be productive on 2 hours of sleep. It just isn't healthy.

When I am doing something that requires attention or is particularly engaging is when getting less sleep doesn't matter much. It's being in class listening to a boring lecture or if work is slow when it becomes a problem. But I agree with you for the most part, if you get 4-5 hours of sleep every weekday you will crash hard during the weekend.

Yeah.. I usually sleep between 2-4 hours a night.

Full time job during the day, and helping friends with business side of things during the night.

It's not too bad, though I wouldn't want to do it forever.. coffee helps.

In college I would operate during the weekdays fine on 4-5 hours of sleep. I would take a 30 minute nap when I get home from classes in the afternoon and be good until 3-4 am. I would catch up on the weekends with 8-10 hours a night though. Also I was not on any kind of drugs or caffeine, just vitamins and some workout supplements like Protein and Glutamine.

Since graduating I found that 6 hours was the minimum I needed during the weekdays with 7 being optimal.

Since I hurt my back I've been getting 8-9 hours a night as my back feels noticeably better the day after getting a good night's sleep.

Every so often I'll have a 5 or so hour night after boozing on a Thursday or something. I take a nap as soon as I get home from work though.
