I'm planning to order a pair of these in the rust but I was hoping to get some sizing advice. I wear a 10 in Clarks Desert Boots. What size should I get based on that?

got a pair of 1000 k boots a week ago and they are great, except for when i walk the crease along the toe box on the right boot folds and pinches down on my big toe. they were really comfortable for the first few days i wore them and did not need breaking in at all. this has developed over the past three days of wearing and it is now unbearable to walk. the left boot, on the other hand (foot), is comfortable and feels like a sock. will this eventually soften as they wear? or will i just break my toe in as it develops a callous? is there any thing i can do to reform the crease so it does not do this?

Alright guys, I need more advice. I'm the guy who wrote about the heel "separating" from the sole of my boot. As i said in my post, the company was sending me a replacement pair. The replacements got here today and there are two things worth noting.

1) they too have the "separation" that you guys all said your boots had as well -- so even brand new they have this "gap". that said, the separation on the replacements is a lot less severe than on my old boots, but that's most likely brand new versus used.

2) more troubling though is that the new boots have this weird patch of leather. i'm not worried about the cosmetic element of this leather, but it seems to me that leather like this would be less rugged -- it feels likely that this area will crack and split a lot easier than the rest of the boot. would you guys be worried about this? seems like "runt" leather. right now i'm inclined to send the replacements back.

Again, thanks for all of the help

I'm no expert, but that looks bad. I'd call whomever sent this to you and send it back. I would hope they would inspect the next pair before sending you the next pair of replacements.

Unfortunately that can be common with chromexcel. It's purely cosmetic and won't affect the durability of the leather; though chromexcel may seem "dry" to the touch, that is just the finish you are feeling.

Due to the commonality of blemishes and its intense stretching, I've stopped wearing chromexcel leather save for my Quoddy mocs which are bought tight and then mold to the foot. I love the way that it wears and how you can brush it to a nice sheen without any other products, but my sizing inconsistencies have put me off.

Are you wearing boot socks or dress socks? That'll make a huge difference along with how you lace them up. Oh and make no mistake, if you don't wear boots all the time you'll get blisters as you break in these boots. Just be thankful they're not serious mountaineering boots. Those take forever and a day to break in.

It isn't bad. It's normal to see these kinds of variations in full grain leather. Some people go way out of their way and cherry pick items with these "flaws" because it adds a unique character to whatever it is.

Now did both of you condition these boots before wearing them or are they fresh out of the box? If not, why not?

I wasn't aware of that, thanks for pointing that out.

thanks for the reply. i've tried boot socks and dress socks both with and without an insole. same thing happened with a pair of clarks dbs to a lesser degree and they are fine now. just disappointing because they felt so comfortable for the first few days. its like i'm un-breaking them in. i hear you about mountaineering boots. i'm still breaking in a pair of la sportiva makulas from 2000. still only feel ok when i'm climbing, mostly because i'm distracted by the loss of feeling in my hands and wondering if i placed my screws right.
any opinion on fiebing snow-proof weatherproofing? its the only thing the local shoe repair guy had and could't find a list of ingredients anywhere so don't know what is actually in it. plan on getting the sno-seal regardless.

Crane's, coming through big again, thanks.

The photo i posted of the wrinkles in the leather was a brand new photo. i opened the box, saw the wrinkles, took the picture. per your post, i was going to condition them before wearing, but didn't make it that far. i actually sent that photo to Wolverine, and the lady working customer service was/is shocked. She said that it was more than a cosmetic problem, but that those wrinkles will indeed wear down faster and crack, and insisted that i send them back immediately, so i did. Not saying that to contradict you guys, only to absolve any guilt in returning a unique pair of boots.

I have to say, Wolverine customer service is really polite, and so far, really helpful.

Mr. Toe problem, i too had a pain in my toe for the first few missions with my boots, but they relented quick enough.

I'm looking at buying a pair of these in rust. I'm willing to wait, but what kind of price can I look for for these boots?

MSRP is $340. Seconds are availible every once in awhile and can run about $200 (Last pairs I saw where Brown however). I believe you can get them for less than MSRP at Revolve if you are a first time customer. You can always check eBay as well.
