Spiaggia's today..was at the beach yesterday so to pay honor wore these today... wow my camerphone stinks, love my orange toned legs......hate when I forget the dsl

4. I'm not a fan of black Strands or Macs. To me, the broguing (sp?) of the shoe is less visible because you're looking at "black holes" against black leather. I think that's why the walnut Strand and Mac is so popular - the broguing really pops against the color of the leather.

Thank you for the excellent feedback and all the great points, Scotty. As you mentioned, I agree that the Fifth Ave may be a better solution, but unfortunately that isn't an option for me at this time. In that case, I suppose I should start with the Park Avenue and go from there.

This sounds about right. I got the quote for $155 plus an extra $50 or so for the midsole, plus an extra $40 for the heel (I was thinking of converting my gumlite-soled trickers, so Nick would have to add the heel). I ended up keeping the gumlites.

110 was me eyeballing based on their quotes on their website, I havent gotten a response yet. Looks like I will be going through AE then. Now that I have another pair of shoes to put in rotation and will likely acquire a third soon, the soles probably wont wear out as fast.

I only ever wear my Strands with jeans, or dark cords, but they're in walnut calf. I also concur with the other poster that said the Alt Wien's medallion is too small.

Something about brogue balmorals makes the shoe sexier, if not a bit less convenient to get on and fit into (especially with wide feet and high insteps).

Update on the Bourbon Dalton seconds I bought during the Father's Day sale:

AE offered me a refund for the heel, although by accepting, I'll have no choice but to buy full price or wait for another sale. Contemplating buying the Shreeveport while it's on clearance, or saving up brownie points with the wife to splurge for a pair in Cordovan.

I love my Strands. My Walnut Shell Strands are probably my favorite of all my shoes still. But given the fact that he doesn't wear suits often, I would go with the Alt Wien. Hope you hopped on that pre-order as they are gone for a while.
