They are virtually the same. The Brooks have some rubber on the outsoles and Poron insoles; but construction, lasts, and design otherwise are identical.

There was a comment a while back that Brooks had not initially chosen to participate in the AE recrafting program. Not sure what the status is. Probably need to ask AE about that when you inquire about the shoes.[/quote]

Just got word from the rep that BB versions are recraftable also.

I'd wait when they fix the strap issue. The straps have broken on many buyers.

Hey guys. Would any of you be interested in buying my "one of a kind" pair of walnut shell Macneils? The size is 8.5D and have been worn twice but show very little wear on the soles. The shoes are a bit too narrow for me and have been sitting around in my closet. I will let these go for $525 shipped. Let me know.

Had an interesting conversation with an AE customer service rep this afternoon. I called to get a return label for a pair of shoes, and commented on the recently-concluded sale, specifically the limited amount of models that were included. She said (and I'm paraphrasing a bit) "It's our 90th anniversary all year, so there will be more sales. You'll get your chance."

Take this with salt, of course, but it's still good to hear.

Post a picture. Shell creases very differently from calf.

I bought a pair of Fairfields on B&S last year, and ever since I've wondered if they are shell or calf. They crease differently, take a shine differently, and they are burgundy. I've googled this and found zip. Is there any way to tell if they are shell in the serial number inside the shoe? How would I know other than contacting AE about it (which I will do if nobody here knows).
Thanks in advance.

Picked up the Bayfield in black (1st) and the Tresana cordovan in cabernet brown (1st) for $200 all up. Pretty good deal! (assuming they fit...).

Amazing deal! You must be an uncommon size to have those available haha

Who knows if they will actually fit though! Ordered 11B (my measured size) in the Bayfield and 10.5B in the Tresana which is what he recommended. Never tried either last on so I took a bit of a punt and Edward at Freeport (who is terrific by the way) helped me with sizing.

Picked up chromexcel brown Bayfields and walnut Player's just for the hell of it since I really do not need anymore boots (I think I already have 13 boots) or walnut shoes (I think I have 8 tan shoes); however, for the price it was hard to pass off.

That is a great set of purchases, but the Tresana in Cabernet brown is calf, not shell. It's still a great shoe (I have them in that color).

Well done!
