I wish the Park Aves fit like the McAllisters

The Strand and McAllister may be immune due to the extra strip of leather around the ankle. The Park Avenue does not have this extra leather. Neither does the Fifth Avenue, but it's a less popular style so we may just hear less such reports.

That said, my Elgins have bowing, which either throws that hypothesis out the window or is inadmissible since they're factory seconds.

For me, the McAllisters fit much more snugly than the Park Aves. I believe it is the extra strips of leather all around the shoe that make it a tighter fit. When trying on the Park/Fifth Aves, they were a little loose and already started to bow out a little bit. It was pretty crazy.

I also have a pair of black Strands, because I needed a black cap toe since the PA's wouldn't work. Their fit is somewhere in between the McAllister and PA. It's strange how much variation between one shoe and the next can have, especially since they're all on the same last. I could also just be being picky, since the McAllisters fit like a glove.

Don't quit trying to find a pair that don't bow then. It really isn't that complex and AE customer service couldn't be any easier to deal with.

I think the numbers game is most likely true. I had a pair of shell Bradley's on the 1 last that both shoes bowed. Sent them back and on the replacements one shoe bowed so sent those back. Also had a pair of Clifton's on the 8 last that bowed. Went through 4 pair of Clifton's trying to find a size that fit but my foot doesn't like the 8 last. Only that one pair bowed.

It's walnut shell. I have a pair as do quite a few others on this thread. They were available last year but don't think AE has any more walnut shell right now.

They were a special limited offer last year. Not regular stock.

The insole was fine, so no worries there. Re-crafting never replaces the insole, but I've really never had an issue with it deteriorating.

It isn't an issue with deterioration of the insole. That is why I am such an advocate of getting the natural leather insoles over the Poron or other foam insoles that are offered. The natural leather insoles don't have a "weak link" that will break down, atleast not in less than 20 years of regular use. I think they are concerned about the previous owner's foot imprint, and the way that it may not properly fit the new owner.

Ah, I see what you mean. I've bought several used pairs on eBay and never had an issue with the previous owner's foot imprint. If anything, I would imagine that because the shoe receives new cork from the re-crafting, that my foot creates a new imprint with the new cork. But maybe I'm wrong?

Not completely. My Strands (firsts) have slight bowing on one side of one shoe.

redtomate and I were discussing this in a PM, but I figured I'd bring it back in the open to get y'all's input:

, but I've only polished them once. I too have noticed the CC taking some of the burnishing away, but I actually kind of like that as it has allowed me to even out the color between my two shoes. But you're right, they're getting closer to Walnut, probably more because of the CC than the Walnut PP. While I haven't tried it, I bet using a darker brown could actually keep them closer to Bourbon.

Any recommendations on a darker polish to keep that rich Bourbon color?

Looks like Tobacco #34 followed by Cognac #10 might be the best fits.

Pictures of the Sanderson. Although they are a great fit, I'm disappointed with the discolouration on the eyestays (as you can see in pics 2/3/4).
