Here is my modest collection, a few classics and several discontinued shoes

Byron and Birmingham in chili, Easton in Saddle brown, and the Slayton in Chestnut

MacNeil, MacAllister, Bel Air, and Park Avenue

Bel Air, Strand, and the Evanston all in Walnut to go along with the Drydon in Brandy.

Hopefully next up should be another pair of boots to go along with my black Bayfields which are are not shown.

Looking good, great looking collection.

A pair of Cordovan boots might be nice.

Very nice collection, reminds me of mine.

Bel Air is probably my favorite and most comfortable shoe I own and use most.

I bought a pair of the Finch--size 12E--in tan/navy back in June when they went on sale for $219.00, they look good and are my best fitting AE's. Sunday night I saw that the black/tan version was on sale for $199.00 so I ordered a pair. Waiting for me on the door step when I got home from work Tuesday evening--I live in Wisconsin just a couple hundred miles from the factory. I love the fit of these shoes. My only gripe is that they don't come with the double oak soles. I thought I'd put them on the hood of the datemobile and take a picture out in the sun.

I agree! I have the Finches in solid tan, and there is something about them that makes them my favorite shoe as well. They fit me like a glove from day one, while my other AE's needed to be broken in over several wearings and I could tell that my other ones became progressively more comfortable with wear. The Finches just felt like they were made for my feet right out of the store. This has me eager to try on the new Rapid City which has just been released in Cognac Dublin leather, which is the same leather as the Finches. It is the same last, just in a blucher style rather than an oxford.

Do you guys think that the Macneil fit true to the size measured on a brannock device?

I'm attending a conference this week where maybe a third of attendees are wearing a sport coat or suit. Here are some thoughts:
  1. I already knew this, but we represent a very small percentage of males (I'm not sure "men" is appropriate for the "others" :) ). Was there really ever a time when, if a guy was wearing a suit, you could reasonably expect that he was wearing a decent pair of dress shoes? Some of the shoes I've seen worn with a suit this week -- and, of course, paired with a backpack -- are baffling. I've seen some truly hideous suits and ties as well, but this is the AE thread.
  2. I agree with those who say ideally balmorals should be worn with suits, but if you're wearing a pair of quality bluchers, the fact that you will be dressed better than 99+% of males out there almost makes this requirement seem silly.

So I'm done with my Allen Edmonds: ended up with 1 (used) Black Park Ave, 1 Dark Brown Park Aves, 1 Walnut 5th Aves (gorgeous shoe)

I was actually going for the Walnut Cliftons but got confused and then did not really care. The only other thing I might consider are the Cliftons in burgundy but so concludes my AE shoe collection.

To be fair, a year ago (almost exactly), I had purchased my first pair of dress shoes: brown J.Crew Giffords. Worst purchase ever.

Thanks StyleForum for schooling me.

No objection here.

And easily 9 out of 10 men couldn't tell you the difference between a bal and blucher to begin with.
