Apparently, AE has made the Walton in cognac shell cordovan with model number 2193. It is going to be interesting, as I have never purchased a used shoe. Anyways, do you think they are shell cordovan? Thank you

Do I order now or wait for the next Shoe Bank sale? I think there's room for the price to come down further but it's a discontinued model so I could end up relegated to eBay. What say you all?

So lemme offer what I've learned in only a year of buying Shoebank:

--never seen a discontinued model that was originally $200 + go below $127, so even if it does go that low you're HOPING to save $30....versus:

--I have seen LOTS of models in my size that I liked enough to buy drop in price as they're discontinued, only to say to myself "it'll go lower/nobody will buy them before I'm ready" etc., only to watch them vanish, leaving me suffering Wannabe Buyers Remorse - black Franciscan, Duke, brown Shell Strand, SMU navy shell Strand, navy Rush Street, walnut/bone Broadstreet..I'm crying just remembering...

BUT I do have a pair of Grey Cloud PA's that I snapped within an hour of them appearing on site, and they're now my most-complimented shoe....

If you see 'em and you're willing to pay THAT price - don't wait, it ain't worth it....

I agree.  Shell.

Me too. While not infallible, AE would often use the dovetail heel design on their shell shoes. I bought a pair of shell Fairgate shoes recently with the same design. (Oops, I did not see Buster Browns comment on this earlier, but here is the heel he references as well.)

What's the difference between the Mctavish and Mcallisters?

Why is the Merlot cheaper than other colors?

And what's the difference between merlot, burgundy, and oxblood?

Some calf shoes have the combination heel too, like Vernon and the brooks brothers shoes.

McTavish is a casual shoe, made from rough cow leather, with a split reverse welt, double sole, and contrast stitching. McAllister is a dress shoe.

The Merlot is close out. They are three slightly different colors sourced from different tanneries. The differences are subtle.

I'm a size 8D in AE shoes. How would these fit? I frequent the Caribbean Islands for vacation alot and in need of a good casual shoe to wear with shorts, chino's and jeans while I"m on vacation.

Anyone?

I'd say they are appropriate for what you want to wear them with, but you'll have to try them on to know if they fit. I believe the conventional wisdom of going a half size down if wearing without socks applies with these like other boat shoes.

During the RDA sale I tried on a pair and found that the outer part of the sole was a little more raised/pronounced than I had experienced with Docksides and Frye Sully boat shoes that I have.

I've seen this bandied about a bit, but what does this even mean? What is the "proper" way to tie your shoes?

Not to be contrarian, as I'm in the school of, "If you like it, buy it" as well.

HOWEVER.

Last year right around this time, I nabbed a pair of cognac McTavish shoes off the Shoebank for $117 after they hovered around $200 for a long time, if memory serves (it might have been $97, but I can't be positive). I grabbed them in 12D, which is my usual 65 last size, only to find out I should have gotten 11-1/2D (they run big for some odd reason). By the time I discovered my sizing error, all the 11-1/2 Ds were gone.

Will it drop below $157? Maybe or maybe not. I think the McTavish is a great casual shoe, but only you can decide if it's worth $157. Let's say it drops at some point to $127 will that $30 difference make up for possibly losing the shoe? I've had "Trigger's Remorse" on a number of shoes that I wish I hadn't passed on while waiting for them to drop even further (Walnut Black Hills, etc.).

Sauk Drive seconds in size 15d, which AE.com never offered.

And Gigi at 20 weeks.

The left boot has that raised rough area on vamp below tongue, but visible.

Decided to keep them anyway since no alternate in this material was available.

Wearing them today, that rough area has smoothed considerably in a few hours, tolerable on a pair of distressed boot seconds.

More Sauk Drive Gigi (Click to show)

Gigi's Tongue is more pink than red, Sauk Drives are more red than brown.

Gratuitous Gigi shot

Damn! Those are big! And red! The punching details loon great in that proportion, though.

It seems like a bunch of this russet Essex was quite wibbly-wobbly. No wonder they're closing it out with this model. Why couldn't they have used the worst boys on the back or shaft though? Maybe they figured the vamp's gonna crease anyway...

Fine looking dOge you got there....
