I actually checked that bit of dialog from the script online to make sure he wasn't making it up! Well done, sounds like one hell of a weekend! You are styleforum's Victor!

Oh man, this place is on a roll. Too tired to write it all out. Friday was my birthday, started drinking at lunch through a great Italian dinner and then bar with friends. Off to a new club on the Buda side that had a decent crowd and music, hooked up with an old fling. Saturday dropped acid for the first time, 6 tabs. Sunday came back from the dead and went to some expat Easter party until 5am. Monday poker and packing; the movable feast leaves for Paris tomorrow (Tue). Next time I throw a party, I'll post in advance so that you guys can book your plane tickets

better late than never

Wed afternoon - arrived in New Orleans, checked into hotel and had a room on the 35th floor overlooking the water (dig it here, here, here, here) and since my hotel was about 2 blocks from the start of Bourbon St, it was time to commence drinking.... I realize that open-air drinking in between bars is legal and "huge ass beers" are $3. I also realize that Bourbon St is nothing but strip clubs and hotdog and pizza joints that serve booze. (How can families vacation here????) About 3 blocks later I realize the exception to that statement was the Absnyth bar on the corner. In Baltimore "fake" absynth is served in shot glasses. In New Orleans "real" absynth is served in highball glasses.... I wasn't expecting this, else I wouldn't have ordered such a strong beer (Turbodog) for a chaser. I left the Absynth bar feeling pretty good but Bourbon St was getting old so I wandered a few blocks away and had my first Po-Boy for dinner at a little dive bar. I then wandered back to the hotel and noticed something that you guys might appreciate..... yes, it was as bad as it looked.

Wed night - after doing work stuff I went back out. I tried One Eyed Jacks but the show was canceled, it was me, the female bartender and a bachelorette party...there were a lot of shots purchased on the company tab that night. I hung out there for a while and met a local girl named Jess. I asked her to show me all the places would never find myself and she takes me to Frenchman St and a bar called "13". It's about 3am and I wanted to try a crawfish Boudan (sp?) - I did, it was tasty. Back to the hotel and I remember the disappointment I felt when I spilled my brand new, still full 16oz beer in the bathroom sink in the rush of drunken urination, but I don't remember much else until I had to wake up at 7am for the start of the conference.

Thursday night - after 8 hours of a software conference I was ready to hit the bars again. A few of us decided to stay off of Bourbon St. for a while so we hit the back end of the French Quarter and then a bar Jess recommended uptown called Le Bon Temps Roule which was ******* awesome... a dirty little club with unfinished floors, sticker/graffiti covered everything and an amazing funky brass band playing in the back room to a twice overcrowded dancing mob! It was pretty intense and a scene totally unique to New Orleans but I really felt at home there. I played pool for a while and then met a REALLY cute local chick named Lacy. We hung out there for a while and had a blast until about 4am and then Lacy gave me a ride back to the hotel.

By Friday morning I was hearing stories of entire companies worth of representatives for the conference being stuck in bed, incredibly hung over from hand grenades and hurricanes. Tales of CEO's hitting on 21 year old strippers and female computer geeks flashing for beads were spreading like it was high school. At about the same time I realized that the hotel had installed a bottle opener in the bathroom of my suite... just within reach of a toilet sitter and the shower.... only in New Orleans.

I had a couple of hours in the middle of the day to walk around and check out the rest of the Quarter including the park and the street musicians. Dig it here here here here here here here here here

Friday night was dinner with the boss and his wife...they greeted me in the lobby with beers in hand and we walked to Court Of The Two Sisters for dinner (good call guys!) Afterwards they wanted to go to Bourbon St. Getting shitfaced with him was a bonding experience I guess (I'm still new there). We got hand grenades and watched a pretty decent 80's cover band with a gorgeous female singer (way hotter than this photo) and really ridiculous looking male singer (way worse than this photo) but both of them could rock out - not bad for hairmetal and 80's covers. "Miss Ohio" showed up with a group of girls, completely trashed and dancing horribly, terribly, tragically to the music. They let "Miss Ohio" dance on stage (horribly, terribly, tragically)

Jess called me so I ditched the boss and his wife (it was about midnight and they were done) and met up with Jess at a lounge/bar next to the House Of Blues which was only a couple of blocks from the hotel... I forgot to mention Jess works at the House Of Blues.... Yellowcard (bleh!) had played that night and she brought one of the guys from the band with her. We drank at the lounge/bar for a while since it was quiet there and then we all headed back up to Frenchman St where we went to some unknown sketchy back-alley, up concrete stairs bar which turned out to be awesome. A bunch of people dancing and sweating to a DJ playing big jazzy beats, really bad pool players that I could easily beat and a balcony full of Jamacan ****** rolling spliffs, right out in the open in front of everyone. The dude from Yellowcard had to split for tourbus call, but we stayed for a while. At some point Lacy showed up completely out of the blue but she was just stopping in for a drink on her way home for the night. Things here became a blur, as did the walk back to the hotel - Jess helped guide the way (her work stuff was stashed in my hotel room)

Slept the whole flight(s) home on Saturday, leaving New Orleans at noon, layover in ALT, back home at 9pm. Headed straight to the bar to DJ Sat night, got there just as it was getting busy. We had a packed house when some drunk broke the internet jukebox. Even though it was turned down while I was playing it pretty much reset the entire sound system - dead air and buzzing for 5 minutes until I ripped out the jukebox wiring and rewired the mixers around it - by that time 1/2 the bar cleared out and I was pissed! 30 minutes later we were pretty full again so I got over it. It was a late night - by the time we closed and I was payed it was close to 5am.

Slept for 15 hours on Sunday.... called out of my DJ gig on Sunday nights :p

Wait, that's not fair to give Jess all the credit. I recommended that bar to you in another thread. See:

Sounds like you had a great time and got to see a lot of New Orleans.

You are right - sorry dude, you did mention it and you were 100% right! That place was awesome, if I lived in NO that's probably where I would hang - kinda cramped for pool though.

I was just being silly. I'm glad to hear that you got around town so much. It sounds like you really made the most out of your visit and were able to find some of the good local spots, which can be tough in that town.

Nice, Brett. I'm going to skip Paris--sorely disappointing trip, not Paris' fault--and should post again after this weekend.

Alright, I will play. First post in this thread.

One of my friends hosted us for a homemade Japanese meal at his place last night. Its normal for us to have each other over for dinner and the host will cook different kinds of food, so those that are coming usually bring dessert or drinks.

So, I took a pecan pie for dessert, another friend brought a 12 pack, and the two girls in my group brought some more beer and a couple of bottles of wine. It was raining pretty hard out, so it was nice to chill in the balcony, drink some beers, listen to good music (portishead, morcheeba, etc) and just relax. Started the night with some hor'dourves and ended it with the pecan pie, with a ton of fried veggies, noodles, and various other dishes in between. After cleaning up and such, ended up just chilling, talking, and then one of my friends got on the guitar, and he played some simon and garfunkel songs. By the time he ended, it was around 4am and so we decide to head out. I head back to the parking lot to realize that I can't find my car, and turns out the f'in towing company had towed it because i hadn't parked in a visitor's spot, even though 80% of the lot was empty. So, drive over to the towing company which looked like a really shady place with the office being in a trailer park, ***** at them for awhile, end up paying $100 fine, and finally in bed by 5am.

Typical friday night for graduate student in an otherwise boring city of Raleigh.
