I wear my Ep flannels from October to March in NH, though not outside too much. Might be ok for a SF winter....

This is kind of what I fear, as much as I like them, I think I'd wear them 2x/year in Texas.

I have a question for Mike and/or others about the Thorogood boot. I'm considering purchasing them as a second winter boot (I have Katahdins as well). I live in Boston so I was thinking about resoling them with a lug or commando sole (there's a cobber that's done minor work on shoes for me before that quoted $65). Thoughts?

They're Goodyear welted, so this would be easy for any competent cobbler.

If you don't want to completely resole a shoe, you can also have rubber sole covers put on to your boots that can be removed when winter ends. It's cheaper than resoling a shoe, but not quite as bulletproof (I've had this done for a pair of chukkas). In any case, $65 is pretty reasonable for a resole. B. Nelson in NYC charges $90 for the same work.

Fresh off the UPS truck and opened the box in my office to reveal my first pair of Epaulet trousers. Slim Walt Oxford Gray Flannels. Ordered a 33 as the measurements seemed right and the fit is almost dead, spot-on perfect. Maybe a half inch loose in the waste. Maybe. And a bit slimmer than I'm used to so contemplating the Rudy's. But wow. Just wow. After trying all different brands, both less expensive and more expensive, I've finally found a great trouser with the fit I want out of the box, made in the USA, and with unrivaled customer service. At least someone is doing it right...my complements to Mike and Adele for filling a niche that has been missing in men's fashion: originality, quality, trad-ness without being stuffy, and excellent value. Nicely played....

How's the weight on that flannel? Can you wear it early fall, west coast "winter" or is it more of a late fall, east coast winter kind of thing?

Very nice weight. I would guess they will be solidly comfortable Oct through April in the PNW, and occasionally outside those months.

It's thick, but not to a crazy degree. We've actually sold quite a bit of Donegals and Flannels to guys in LA.

They're goodyear welted, so it's entirely possible to have them resoled. You can also have lugs cemented to the bottom - that's a pretty cheap solution for a smooth sole like the ones on the 685 boot.

But, you don't have to worry about the toughness and water resistance of the Cork/Latex sole that's on the boots now. It's the same one used on the Alden Indy, and it's very long-wearing. You'd only really need lugs for slippage on ice and wet pavement. I wear my Black & Tan Indy's (same sole) throughout the winter in NYC without a problem.

I haven't personally washed the Cramerton's in warm or hot water, but I'd be surprised if there was any significant shrinkage. They don't shrink at all in cold water.

The Tanker boot was produced in both 7.5D and 8D. They just sold out. Both of those sizes were available when I posted them up in our affiliate thread earlier this week.

Thanks for the information, I appreciate it. Mostly I'm concerned with slippage on ice and I wasn't sure how that sole would work in those conditions. I'm sort of debating between the Danner and the Thorogood (I know they're very different aesthetically). I'm leaning toward the Thorogood because it's a sleeker boot and I kind of what to go that direction with my next purchase, but I'm still somewhat undecided.

Just got my donegals...the fabric is insane...I'm gonna wear the crap out of the navy ones. Ercoles is hemming them now and I tried em on with #8 boots...the colors compliment each other wonderfully!
