How much you would spend on a belt?

As far as I'm concerned, a good belt is one of the most essential components of a man's attire. Some say these are the shoes, the tie, the watch and the belt. So it seems sensible to invest a considerable sum in that object. How much would you pay?. And also, how much is necesary to get a good belt?. I think that 300 - 500 dollars could be a good top limit. I would like to know as well how many belts would you like to own?.

I have my eyes on a nice sterling buckle and a few nice leather straps(3). Will probably be in the range of $500-600 total. I think this plus 2-3 other basic belts will be more than sufficient for me.

I paid 300 for a Ferragamo reversable belt with a mid brown on one side that matched my shoes so perfectly I coulden't afford not to get it. Matching my shoes to a proper belt is the hardest thing I find. The shades are always off just a little and it bothers me. I don't think I'd ever spend that much again, it was defininlty more of an impulsive purchase, but I do plan to have it for a long time and the belt is great for traveling.

I've honestly never spent more than about $30 on a belt (always focusing more on shoes, clothes, and other accessories). On the flip side, I was just talking with my wife the other day about belts, and when I told her how cheap all my Target, J. Crew, TJ Maxx, etc. belts were, she replied, "Yeah, and it shows."

I think it might just be a case of not having the opportunity to get your hands on a high quality belt. Women are more attuned to accessories than men, but they still buy alot of poor quality belts. I've seen some pretty good looking belts in the $50. to $100. range. They're good facsimiles of better belts. Depending on the leather, a good strap will run about $200. and up. You have to know about the detailing to know what to get. Obviously, I'm not a fan of cheap, brass or plated buckles. You can buy a new, U.S made, high quality, sterling compression buckle for about $100.

The Alden cordovan belts are about $250 I believe, and definitely worth the price. Beyond that, I can't see why anyone would pay more.

$100. And that would be the very top end.

I went to the AE store at SCP a couple of weeks ago, and saw some very nice belts with interesting buckles. Didn't bother checking the price because I was set on not spending anything that day. I have no clue how much AE belts run retail, but I would have paid $75 for it, but no more.

The AE belts run about $90 retail, IIRC.

€250, but it was for a Lobb in Parisian brown museum; it was critical to have a matching belt. I have an EG belt coming in Edwardian. Much more reasonable price than the JL.

Most I've spent in the past $200. Most I would spend now (excluding sterling buckles or something really out of the ordinary) $100.

Looking for a good chocolate brown suede belt now with a relatively restrained and urbane silver-toned buckle now, in case anyone has any suggestions.
