Last time I was in NYC, a couple of black guys commented on my C&J's in Bergdorf. They probably thought I looked gangsta.

My bride and I both speculated that:

1. I am their father's age and am harmless (I'm just a fuzz ball at heart).

2. This is a not so subtle hint at their often shabbily dressed date/husband to clean up their act.

3. They truly admire a sharp dresser. (I'm not a fashion plate OK, often wearing a sport coat and tie, I do out dress the average male who looks like a refugee from Darfur)

Not only you dress nice, you are a pilot, a musician , probably good looking , and married (taken) . No surprise there that women fall at your feet.

A guy on the train said he liked my gangster and pointed to my red socks. I was confused.

I cannot remember anybody ever remarking on my dress out in public.

Edit- Actually, one time I was at lunch with another SF member and somebody came up to him to tell him what a fantastic suit he was wearing. He then looked at me and said that mine was nice too.

Boutonnieres were a bit trendy two or three seasons ago. A lot of fake stuff was brought out by Burberry Prorsum, Prada, Miu Miu, etc.

Though a red carnation is always classic.

I prefer Tobias Wong's ballistic nylon rose. Too big for a man, my wife wears hers pretty frequently.

One of the compelling aspects about wearing a flower is the decadence of wearing a live thing on your lapel. It's positively Victorian though, when you think about it.
