Her comment was inappropriate and she was out of line. If she can't Learn to treat you like an adult, you should seriously consider the future of the relationship. You two should have a very serious conversation about this.

Oh, and as for times, I consider myself a citizen of the world, and it's cocktail time somewhere any hour of the day.

A wise man once said (actually a Flight attendant):

It's never too early for a glass of Champagne!

I rarely drink before noon, but have been known to have the odd drink out with a hearty lunch, or something light with a brunch (Champagne and Lillet Red is a favorite).

Different things are different for different people. If someone told me I wasn't controlling myslef with regard to alcohol, I'd take a very sober look at my habits and secure third-party advice.

That being said, I am always wary of absolutes in relationships -- though there must always be some, a little discussion should accompany each.

I eat lunch around 1 or 1:30 and that's the earliest I'd consider having a drink.

If you get up at 7 AM and have a glass of wine by 11:30 I don't see a problem with it. I'd see a problem if you woke up at 11 AM and went straight for it... or if you knocked off a whole bottle and had a hangover by 2 PM...

Personal rules:

Glass of wine with lunch during the week.

4pm for anything harder.

Weekend brunch, you could drink a bloody mary or a mimosa, I suppose, but it isn't particularly manly.

As with many things context is key: for a 10:00 tee time a few liquor drinks before lunch would be legitimate.

Actually, I kind of wing it. That sounds a little too Lillet heavy. And express the oil from an orange twist on the top. ~ H

In university I would regularly shower with a few bottles of cold beer in the morning.

During summer work, unless I was operating heavy machinery that morning (family farm ftl), I would take some whiskey with me.

It's all age-appropriate, and intentions of the drink. If you simply want a drink, with no intention of getting drunk, I don't see any problem with it.
