Is it a Tuxedo... or Suit?

The short story is I'm thinking of buying this and I don't know if I should treat it like a tuxedo or suit.

It has the satin facings (trendy version) and covered buttons, which pretty much makes it a tuxedo jacket --

but then the paired pants don't have the satin trim.

It's more of a fashion piece (Prada), but my real question is should I be wearing a vest?

Thanks in advance for the help.

The two button stance and pocket flaps, along with only the edged of the lapels being satin, make this a fashionable suit, not a tux. I'm guessing the trousers have belt loops as well?

That being said, if you were invited to a fun holiday party that was black tie or black tie optional, without being a particularly formal event (vs. a wedding or fundraiser or something) it would be a fun piece to wear. I wouldn't want that as my only formalwear, though.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Yes - belt loops. If I buy it, it will be for a black tie optional new years party. Downtown San Diego - so I figure I can go more trendy...

Seems like a good pairing of event and outfit.

Clooney once wore a dinner suit with lapel facings like that. I suppose as someone in the public eye invited to several black tie events per year he has to mix it up a bit so as not to look like a tramp. I think it worked well for him.

If you look at it as a very casual dinner jacket, it's a pretty OK piece. I would tuck in the pocket flaps (since classic dinner jackets have jetted pockets, not flapped), and I would also consider having your tailor close the ****(s) (again, since this is a detail not found on classic dinner jackets).
