Irreversible was very gripping. Has anyone mentioned The Vanishing? Maybe it should go under "Most Disturbing."

I know it's probably horrible, but I still think of Star Wars every time I see this.

Yeah, it's cheesy, but Dances with Wolves was quite powerful for me. I also think Wong Kar Wai movies, especially Happy Together or In the Mood for Love, are very quietly powerful in how they capture a specific emotion which is quite hard to put into words.

i saw dog day afternoon when i was pretty young, and it basically changed me forever. other movies:

once were warriors - don't watch unless you're ready to have this movie on your mind from time to time forever.

the deer hunter
midnight cowboy - gave me a glimpse of the seedy, pornographic new york which is all but gone now.
schindler's list - i ******* cried. and you know, i never cry. i never cry, alice.
eat drink man woman - powerful in its own quiet way

Only the original. The Keifer Sutherland version sucked.

Schindler's List is up there. I think I'm going to say, first, Glengarry Glen Ross owing both to performances and the fact that it is the most psychologically violent movie I think I've ever seen, and Network just because of the resonance some of the monologues have.

Seeing what those people have to go through to get here was pretty powerful to me. Not that I didn't know, but you know, seeing it is something else.

That director actually made that trip himself before shooting the movie.
